There are two established facts: Chuck Norris is fuelled by awesome. Now, since I'm ultra-conservative myself, that's all peachy. But what occured to me is that people seem to sweep Chuck Norris's personal views and personality under the rug in order to keep him as an icon. I noticed a similar thing with Owl City - hardcore Christian, but the media and many fans prefer to pretend their idol is 'just like them', so to speak. People like to pretend Chuck Norris is awesome because he kicks people in the face and has a manly beard, not because of his political views. Those are irrelative to his on-air ass-kicking and are thus bears no importance to his meme. A sad and sorry world we live in when people try to make everything political. |

I have to agree with Cybrid whole-heartedly here. That, and I watch Jon Stewart if I want honest politics. -- You know who's not got Facebook or Twitter? This guy. |

I pretty much agree with that. I was just curious about the American perception of Chuck Norris as both an icon and an individual. Do conservative Americans look up to him as a role model? Did someone once like\love\adore Chuck, then hate\dislike him when they learnt his personal views? Whole Chuck Norris thing is funny... But those jokes already made him an icon and people have fun with those jokes. -- #include "zcommon.acs" script 1 ENTER { print (s:"DEAD FiSH rules!"); } |

The reason I started this thread was because I had put a Chuck Norris joke in the dialogue of a mod I'm working on. Then I realised that I'd caught the tail end of the Chuck Norris meme. It occurs to me now that the meme was very weak because Chuck Norris was a mute figure. Meme-Chuck had no character beyond face-kicking. And what I'm seriously suggesting is that the people who fuelled of the meme choked the meme because they were unwilling to explore Chuck Norris as a real person. I think people, generally, would sooner create a 'Companion Heart Cube for President 2012' poster than a 'Chuck Norris for President 2012' poster. The interweb peeps have an uneasy relationship with the man, which they dealt with in meme which bordered on mockery at times. -- Is there any point in public debate in a society where hardly anyone has been taught how to think, while millions have been taught what to think? |

Exploring a person isn't the point of memes. Chuck Testa is a person, but you wont find his meme going beyond taxidermy because that isn't what he is famous for. You could say a lot about Nick Cage, but if the joke is his crazy hair then that is the joke, not his thoughts on the economy or immigration. Those arguments are rendered invalid because his hair is a bird. |

Let the Chuck Norris thing die already, dang, it's been 6 years. Anyway, it's always been about Steven Seagal since day one.

I'm kinda bummed that his roles of late have been so forgettable. He seems to be falling into the same pit as Stallone. Instead of trying to be 80's action stars, actors like Norris should try to get cast in something with more depth. -- Is there any point in public debate in a society where hardly anyone has been taught how to think, while millions have been taught what to think? |
