OUTDATED VERSION, GET 2.O INSTEAD! This is UnrealHD, a High-Res skins mutator for both Unreal 227 and Unreal Tournament. This will replace all those old, blurry skins of Unreal/RTNP with detailed HD counterparts. This is primarily meant to be used with SinglePlayer, but can also be used offline with bots or possibly on a local server (not tested). Also works with Custom maps, Mutators, and Mods! Easy to install and does not replace/modify any Unreal system files. This pack does not break online play.
*OUTDATED VERSION. GET 2.0 INSTEAD!
This Mod will replace all those old, blurry Unreal/RTNP skins with detailed, high-res versions. It works in Unreal 227 and Unreal Tournament '99. My primary goal with this project was to keep the skins looking as faithful as possible, while removing the obvious outdated "pixelation" of the original skins. In order to achieve this, each skin has been manually reworked. There has been no simple filters or cheesy sharpening techniques used during the skinning process. Each part of every skin has been manually air-brushed and blended. Hundreds of layers were created to apply overlay detail textures, better looking shadows, better highlights, and more. The end result is faithful skins that look almost the same from a distance, but far more detailed up-close. In the case of bigger meshes like the Titan, detail is evident even when viewed from a distance. Most skins have been increased from the original dimensions of 128x128/256x256 to 2048x2048/4096x4096.
The following skins are replaced for Unreal and RTNP:
I also recommend getting DieHard's S3TC textures, which look great when combined with these Skins: UTTexture.com
Although these skins will work in UT99 offline with bots, they are primarily meant to work with the OldSkool mod in SinglePlayer. The Oldskool mod allows you to play Unreal1 content in UT99:

Note: This pack currently does not work online with a dedicated server. An online version is currently in the works by GoPostal, although there are no guarantees when and if this might come out. The pack will work offline with bots however, or with a local online server!
Credits
This project was conceived by me (Lightning Hunter), and most of the skinning was done by me. However, there are a lot of other people to credit! Here is a
comprehensive list of all who contributed:
-Ahaigh01 created a thread at OldUnreal back in 2011 with a handful of high-res skins. All of these skins have been included in this release, with most
of them having been tweaked by me. The following skins were created by Ahaigh and are completely unmodified:
Flags, Sign, Steel Barrel, Wooden Barrel, Chest, Wooden Box, Moon Two, Moon3, Boulder, Lantern, Knife, all the books, and the Rabbit.
The following skins were created by Ahaigh and tweaked by me:
All trees & Plants, the Monk Statue, Eightball Gun, Dispersion Pistol, Health, Nali Fruit, Amplifier, Bandage, Flash Light, and Gina player skin.
-Yrex helped out immensely with code tweaks, mesh fixes, and more. The RTNP weapon skins would not be working properly if not for his meshes and coding help! He also helped tweak the original mutator code almost beyond recognition - fixing many bugs with OldSkool and gibs, as well as allowing Fragments and chunks to work. Yrex also did the skin for the Warlord gun, as well as a mesh that fixed the gun being so warped.
-Buff Skeleton (Waffnuffly) created the original Spawn Notify code, which allows the mutator to exist in such an easy to use form! This pack would be so much more difficult to install/run without it...
-Casey, for the creation of the UT Texture Merger tool (which will most definitely be used in the future), and also for his help in general.
-Skywolf created multiple mesh fixes, such as the new Titan mesh that fixes the mirroring issues with the skin. These issues were blatantly obvious with high-res skins, but barely noticeable with the original blurry skins. Also, keep an eye out for a possible future release from Skywolf with HD meshes/models!
-sn260591 created the original mutator code for this mod, which unfortunately lagged the game (might have just been my system) and had to be scrapped. However, I still have to thank him for the original code that allowed me to get this project up and running and tested!
-J-Rts created the original Flak Cannon skin, which I heavily modified.
-Leo T_C_K, GoPostal, Rocky, and Preki for beta testing. Thank you all for your feedback and support!
-Thanks to the following people for their feedback at OldUnreal and UnrealSP.org: Leo T_C_K, Gopostal, Kajgue, AlCapowned, han, Krull0r, BobIsUnreal, unreality, Dr.Flay™, Ironword, and Teridax.
Also, a lot of the detail overlay textures I used on these skins came from various free texture websites on the internet. Here are some of my sources:
hhh316: Hhh316.deviantart.com
Mb3d (Max Textures): Mb3d.co.uk
AGF81: Agf81.deviantart.com
CGArtShop (website down now) - for the blood texture or "seamless strawberry jam".
Suicidecrew for the seamless stock fire texture used for the Upak Explosion and JFireball.
Many of the other detail textures used came from Unreal itself. I apologize if I forgot to credit anybody for any detail textures used in this pack!
Production Details and Other Info
This project took about 9 months of very intensive work. The average skin took 4-6 hours to complete, with some of the more complex skins (like the Titan) taking several weeks. The primary tools used were Photoshop7, UnrealEd 2.1, Paint.net, and of course UT99 and Unreal227.
COMING SOON: Return To Na Pali: Ultimate Edition HD. If anyone out there enjoyed RTNP:UE, this new HD verison coming up will give all the beta skins and custom skins HD versions. Playing this in conjunction with UnrealHD will complete the experience! Keep track of the Mod page here:

The crash occurs every time in the same place on different settings (lowest possible to the highest).
What render/drivers are you using? OpenGL, D3D9, or something else? Can you take a screenshot or best describe the location where it crashes? I am not getting any errors myself so far, so I need more details.
Tried all render versions - D3d, software, opengl. The screens before the crash: Imgur.com
I can provide the save files.
I am not getting a crash there at all. Are you running any other mutators or mods? If you can send me Unreal.ini, Unreal.log, and the save file, I can check to see if there are any obvious issues.
Log: Pastebin.com
Ini: Pastebin.com
No other mutators are used or installed. Unreal Gold from gog and 227i patch + HD Skins.
I copied your exact settings to my own unreal.ini, but was still unable to reproduce the crash. I ran around that area you posted a screenshot of for quite a while, and all seemed ok. Maybe you can try moving unreal.ini and user.ini out of the system folder, and try the map again with all default settings?
I also meant to ask, are you using DieHard's S3TC textures? If so, which one's are you using?
I use no other textures or mods for the game. Only this pack. The crash happens on a second computer in the same area. And I didn't mention that both PC's run windows 10 pro.
I wonder if anyone else is having trouble with Windows 10 pro? I have Windows 7 64-bit, so I can't test. There is just a small handful of people who are having problems with this mutator, but I am not sure which version of windows they have. Most of these people disappear without any extra info after their initial complaint, so I am unsure if they got it working, or if they gave up. I can't help someone if they don't help me!
Anyway, I will do more brainstorming to see if I can think of anything else. It is unfortunate that I cannot reproduce this problem.
And this is why i'm sticking with my Win7 OS for now :)
Thanks for the mod ,seems to be working ok for me.

Gonna update this for human models ?
I don't have any plans to do so at this time. There are just too many player skins, and they are complex. If someone else out there would be willing to step in and complete the player skins, I would certainly include them in the mutator and release a new version!
Hi, I am using Steam Unreal Gold and 227i patch. I extracted this skin pack but I don't know how to enable the mutator. There's no mutator window anywhere, when I start new Single player game, I see no mutator button. What am I missing? Thanks in advance.
Did you download the Unreal Gold version of the 227i patch? If so, there will be a "mutators" button when you go to Game->New.
If your game looks like this screenshot, then you have the wrong version of the patch (this the Unreal1 version, NOT the UnrealGold version):

I had installed standalone Unreal cd version and patched it to version 227i but there is no mutator button when I go to Game->New.
Read my response to the person above. You need to have Unreal Gold and the correct version of 227i. If you have the classic looking menu that has no mouse or windows style, you have the wrong version.
i also have a windows 10 pro pc and after I did everything got the game to recognize the mutator and enable it when the game starts its still in oldschool mode nothing hd outside of normal 227i performance.

Hello, can I use it with the S3TC textures? Also I'm wondering the supposed bug with Windows 10 is fixed (I'm using Unreal Gold from GOG).
Never mind, the description says it.
