Plug How?

Mission Statements.

Hi In this installment I'm going to show you where to place those new plugs your just go and how to use the two plugin sets available at this time.

So where do this go?

After installing Build 135+ you will see a directory called plugins under your Radiant directory.

C:/Program File/QERadiant/plugins

All of your plugs go in there. NOTE: Some plugs like MGS are zipped with a directory structure and contain this plugins directory in the zip, these plugs should be unzipped to the radiant directory. (for your convenience plugins can be downloaded form this site on the same page you download radiant, Robert also keeps a list on the QERadiant HomePage)

Rouge Shapes.

The Rouge Shapes plugin is found in the Rogue Plugins zip file.

This plugin has the ability to make ramps and stairs with ease.
First the Ramp.
The ramp plugin makes a ramp that runs form the highest point on the selected brush to the lowest place on the brush. (think of it as clipping the brush from corner to corner) These are a few options that control how the ramp will look.
First is style, this controls how the ends of the ramp will look. Horizontal make the ends run along xy plane (north, south, east, and west), Vertical runs along the yz plane (up, down).
Next is Orientation, this controls what axis the ramp will be made on. Try out the two settings to get a feel for them.
Next is face size, this controls how large the edges of the ramp will be. 64 should be use for brushes that touch the void, others should be as big as needed, you can allways resize latter, if you need to.
Click in Ok will make the ramp. Play around with the settings for a while to get a feel for them.
Second the stairs.
The stairs plugins makes a set of stairs. You make a brush that determines the dimensions of the finished set of stairs.
The first option is how the stairs will look. Filled, or platform looks.
The Second is how many steps you want, more steps will scale down the step highest so that they all fit in your original brush.
The next option is what axis the steps should be made on. x and y will make steps that run in different directions, z will make the steps upside down (should be used to make layered ceilings, pillars or other objects)

Both ramp and stairs require that you have one brush selected, and that the brush be at lest 16x16x16 units.
Just because there called ramp and stairs doesn't mean the player must walk on them, they can easily be used to make angled walls, even grating work by making a 16 unit high brush and running the stairs plug and deleting every other brush, that is created. I'll leave other uses up to you.

Rouge Brush Repair.

This plug is included in the Rouge Plugins download.
This plug is used to get rid of some common errors that have been problems in the past.

First is Purge Evil Brushes, A.K.A bad brushes. This will get rid of a ton of build errors that have ben in the pat a pain to track down, (should be run before each build)
Next comes remove duplicate planes, this while not giving a build error does slowdown the build times. This should be run if your getting warnings about duplicate planes while you build.
Next is count mixed contents, this counts the number of brushes that contain mixed content flags.
Find mixed face contact find the brushes that have mixed content flags set so you can easily fix the problem.

MGS

MGS has it's own set of tutorial on it's use that can be found at the MGS WebSite
I have had using the MGA options for brush scripting, corridor generation, and ground generation, other have reported problems, but it might just be our settings.
