Post news Report RSS Zombie Mod Update 5

Some new features have been planned and are currently under development.

Hello! I am pleased to share with you some recent ideas that will be incorporated into my the mod. I would like to start off with base building.

I know we had originally planned on just upgrading a building to a safe house, but this didn't work with AI, so unless you wanna play against a builder spamming AI, this is beneficial.

Don't worry, the bases will all be in context so that it's not like you are building a tank depot in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. It is actually set up so that your base is a Red Cross Disaster Relief center. This is realistic, as the Red Cross would quickly react to emergencies and set up relief centers.

Without further adieu, let me propose the base structure. When playing as Survivors, you start off with survivors and an HQ. After building a builder squad you have access to the:

1) Medical Response tent
Ability purchases:
- Medic: Each survivor squad gets one medic in their squad who can heal the wounded, and execute infected.
- Syringes: Gives each squad ability to heal each other temporarily.

2) National Guard Tent
Unit purchases:
- Recruits: Newest recruits who haven't completed basic training.
- Scouts: 3 soldiers who can camouflage themselves effectively.
Ability purchases:
- Bandoliers: Infantry can hold more ammo.
- Grenades: Soldiers now get grenades, but supplies are limited.

3) Police Tent
Unit purchases:
- Police Sargent: Provides morale and increases your survivor's effectiveness.
Ability purchases:
- Flashlight: When purchased, one man in each squad gets a small flashlight to light the way.
- Body Armor: When purchased, two men per squad have increased HP.

4) Supply Tent
Unit purchases:
- Supply Truck: When units are near the truck, they resupply. It can also give rides to single unit squads, such as the Police Sargent.
Ability purchases:
- "Go find supplies!": When purchased, you can order inactive squads to scrounge for supplies.
- "Look harder!": Level X upgrade to the above ability.

Next, let me discuss some new features that require the service of our excellent SCAR coder, sirpsychoj. These are only planned, so don't expect them to be ingame unless I say otherwise. We are currently planning to implement:

- Running out of ammo
- Zombie ambushes in safe houses (tarman anyone?)
- Tunnels and sewer systems
- Single Player missions and/or campaign
- Realistic weapons

Enjoy! Oh, and by the way, sorry about 2.502 version not being released yet. It is kind of low on the list of priorities right now!

Gutted to hear about 2.502 being a low priority but i guess getting more features in is worth the wait especially looking at some of the stuff mentioned.
Even if things like running out of ammo can't be worked in then upgrades like bandoliers could be used to reduce the cost of special abilities.
Hope the coding and everything goes well anyway

On the possiblities i like the Zombie Ambushes and the Single player missions/campaign, and if u mean Realistic Weapons by reducing accuracy and stuff like that i'm all for it. But i think the whole Running out of ammo thing might be a little to much. Its a great idea, but mabye if you made like an Operation type thing where you have to conserve ammo it would work. And as for the tunnel and sewer system thing i dont think it would work out to well, but if you do decide to go with it and shed some light on it i might like the idea better.

Well, concerning the ammo and tunnels, I think it is a good idea for 2 reasons. Firstly, in real life, survivors wouldn't have unlimited ammunition at their disposal. So, if they start off with say 300 rounds each, and each clip is about 25 shots, they get 12 clips before they have to retreat or meet up with the supply truck.

Also, with the tunnels, it would be helpful to get from one place to another without getting attacked by hordes of zombies. That being said, it is simply a means of safe transportation.

Alright now i see what you mean. The limited rounds may work, and the tunnels sound like a pretty good idea. Just the two of them are gonna be hard to put in. Well they might, idk if they will. Just sounds like thats gonna take a bit.

sirpsychoj, the team's SCAR coder, says these are feasible and actually pretty easy. As a matter of fact, we are looking into more advanced things, such as flashlights and scripted airplane landings and takeoffs (cough cough hint)
