So. A little over a month out from making the ModDB page public, I'd like to show some of our progress in the creation of the models for aliens.
This is the Manta. The Vortigaunts have tamed some of these, docile variants, and used them as a way to quickly move around Xen. In TVE, you'll take one or two rides on these Mantas.
Speaking of Vortigaunts,
This is our main man. Our wonderful cruelly-shackled alien, the Vortigaunt. The Through Vortal Eyes Vortigaunt model is a combination of the HL1 Concept Art, HL2, and HL Alyx model designs.
Finally, here’s the Headcrab. This is the most recently made model, and the textures might change, but the model itself I'm fairly happy with.
This is by no means the only progress we've made, however, this is all we're going to share for now.

The headcrab feel a bit odd, in the original Half-Life 1 they were supposed to be more yellow-ish.
I agree with you on the stance that the headcrab is a bit odd, but not for the same reason. the hind legs face forward in this model, whilst in hl2 they does not. they dont in hl1, but it feels a bit wrong with the higher model quality.
