Now available on Steam for Deus Ex GOTY! Grab it from Steam or download our standalone installer.

Posted by on

After seven years of development, we are proud to announce that

Deus Ex: Revision 1.0 is now available

Thanks to the support of Square Enix, Revision is available right now as free DLC for everyone who owns Deus Ex: GOTY through Steam.

Steam Download - Revision

For those of you who don’t already own Deus Ex: GOTY on Steam, Square Enix have started a sale on Steam, and have cut the price of the game by 80%, along with the Director’s Cut of Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Deus Ex: Revision

As an alternative to the Steam servers, we have also made a standalone installer available through our own site, and through ModDB. This installer contains all of the files necessary to play Deus Ex: Revision 1.0 on your computer. However, it is intended for use with a copy of Deus Ex owned through Steam. After installation, the next time Steam opens, allow it to proceed with the final steps of the installation to register everything properly.

For everyone who has followed this project over the years, thank you. I hope you enjoy our work.

My heartfelt congratulations! All these years of hard work have finally paid off.

A shame that in the end the community reactions (the ModDB page in particular) went the way of Project CARS (complaints on the lack of content, complaints on the content itself, sockpuppets with low ratings et al), but let's remember the perfectly apt response from Ian Bell: "if you can do better, I would love to read your resume". :]

I don't believe it... It can't be true.
This must be some kind of a conspiracy!

Kudos to you. But bad move at making it a Steam-Exclusive Mod. What a shame! I would feel bad if I were you considering not everyone will be able to enjoy your mod because of that decision. I hope you will change it. If not you will never have my approval speaking as a Deus Ex fan.

QFT. With a steam only version you've just lost yet another downloader and potential player.

I Joseph Manderley am proud of you but that Steam-Exclusive thing sounds like a joke... You should do a favour to the fans and make it available for everyone who has a copy for this game, not only the ones who bought it for Steam. It's just a non-sense that after working on this mod for seven years now 50% of people cannot enjoy it because of that... don't you think? Please don't be a fool like myself.

Kudos on the release, I'll give it a whirl later.

As a side note, releasing it for Steam makes a lot of sense, since you've got a clearer user base. No issues with odd installation directories or potentially un-patched versions like we had to deal with for New Vision.

So, New Vision: some people had to patch their version of DX or to double check the install directory.
Revision: most of the people first think they can't play without buying DX on steam, lots of them get angry, then some of them see that there's a trick to install it without steam (including things to update by themselves if they want everything to work properly) and they have to patch their game anyway.

Conclusion: Revision is simpler? Might be true for the minority who had problems installing New Vision and who own DX on Steam, not for the others.

I imagine a significant amount of people who will want to play this own the game on steam, not a minority of them, most likely the majority.

Congratulations and thank you so much for pushing this through to release! Also, now we understand part of the delays were getting it on Steam as official DLC via Squix.

I certainly hope you get a slice of the sales driven by the mod :) Also, I hope this gets you a leg up on becoming official game developers!

How does getting auto-updates through steam equal to being "official DLC via Squix?"

Are you people mental? Has this become about making sh*t up now? Complete libel?

If I developed this I'd NEVER cave to BS internet bully tactics the likes of this.

Not sure if this works but heres the directions:
GoG version works fine with this mod, confirmed working the method instructed by death globe on neogaf.

"Use the standalone installer (from ModDB page) and ignore steam at the end.
Then download Kentie's launcher from kentie.net/article/dxguide/index.htm , extract it into your Deus Ex/System.
Make a copy of the Deusex.exe and rename it to Revision.exe
Now run the Revision.exe..configure it how you see fit...and finally in Data Directories make sure to check everything."

Only other issue was dx renderer has an texture too large error, but using open gl it all appears fine so far.

I find the restriction to the monopolistic Steam to be at odds with the original game's themes. I'm a bit bitter to be ruled out of the party after years of waiting for the mod. :\

all i can say that having a steam version is a great opportunity for the dev to get a really wider range of audience...if it has to be steam only, then let it be. easier update system, huge advertisement, maybe other opportunities for the guys.
i hate the drm as the next moddbian, i like the gog versions, i like clicking red download buttons like you guys, but this is something they couldnt have missed out on.

Two things:

- There's a bug where you can't save if your install location is too large. Deus Exe fixed this, but you must have missed that when you implemented community bug fixes.

- Parts that are dark (everywhere) are WAY TOO dark. Like, you can't see anything at all dark. There should be an ambient light in every level, even if it's a really subtle one. The difference between "This is really dark and moody" and "This is pitch black and I can't see anything at all" is an important one. Yes, I know the original had issues with that, but you can't even fix it by ramping up the gamma like you could in the original.

If the mod isn't steam only isn't there a feature that gets reviews removed if they spread false information?

Jeez, the amount of people that are forgoing something they've been looking forward too for so long, just because of a misconception that its 'steam only' is ridiculous.

As a side note, I don't see the problem; if it were a mod for 'steam only' copies of the game, then i would buy the damn game, iv'e been looking in on this forever. Also i have Deus ex like five times over, the disc, through GOG, through Steam, through GMG.... heck some of these places have given the game away for free, or at huge discounts. Speaking of discounts, through the partnership with Square, there's now a steam sale for Deus Ex, because of this mod, and not just the GOTY but IW and HR

It is not a "misconception" that it's Steam only. It is Steam only! You have to have a Steam copy of the game to play the mod.

Nor is it a misconception that the developers are completely ignorant to the gamers. Kissing SE's bottom by doing Steam only. Bottom kissers.

Hey Deus ex fans!
I have the solution for playing deus ex REVISION WITHOUT STEAM :D
100% works!

1) First get the cd edition; Install it. Make sure you have the latest patch v1112fm, if not download and install it.
2) Download revision the steam edition from here (moddb) and install it in your game directory (C:/DeusEx) or where it is installed.
3) Download this launcher: Coding.hanfling.de
4) Extract all the files from the zip and copy all of them and paste it in (C:\Deus Ex\System)
5) Then, rename the file "Launch.exe" to "Revision.exe"; create a shortcut and run! Have fun! :D
