Post news RSS Kûnin, Khân's Stronghold

Kûnin was the ancient name given to a sunlit valley in the mysterious tongue of distant Rhûn. The name now belongs to the fortress that inhabits the rocky hilltop and surrounding farmland, ruled over by a fierce and warlike Khân.

Join us as we explore further into the mysterious Eastlands of Middle-earth, towards the fortress and valley of Kûnin - located in a land far to the east. Kûnin is a 4 player map, featuring two inns and a signal fire.

The valley of Kûnin has been inhabited for untold years. It is named for its plentiful sun, located further inland from the cooler climate that surrounds the Sea of Rhun. Its current fortress was built hundreds of years ago on the foundations of older structures, and steadily expanded. It has been the witness and subject of much strife and bloodshed, though it is currently controlled by a fierce Khân whose ruthless reputation has allowed it to prosper in relative peace for some years now.

Tall structures result in a marked contrast with the surrounding farmlands

Though we are not adding a Rhûn faction to Age of the Ring, we are trying to shine a light on them in 8.0 regardless through a number of maps depicting the varied regions in the East.

With inns, so Rhun can get a complete army, very nice indeed! ☺️

I love it, the fantastic work on maps is probably my favorite thing about AOTR and what contributes the most in keeping the game fresh to me. The revamped Dol Guldur is an event, kudos to its designers. I can't wait to see the new additions of 8.0!

Love the eastern-inspired architecture! It's unique but doesn't feel out of place!

Another fantastic job! Thank you for all your hard work. I look forward to seeing what else you have in store for the Eastern regions. Would it be too cheeky to ask if you plan to add anymore Eastern units?

There'll be a few new Easterling units in 8.0: Mordor is getting Easterling Axemen as a replacement for Easterling Swordsmen; players will be able to recruit Serf Spearmen and Easterling Swordsmen from the inn depending on the map's region. There'll also be a few unused Easterling units and a hero hidden in the files that submodders can easily add to a faction.
