Greetings everyone and welcome to a special holiday edition of our dev diaries!
An enormous progress has been made behind the scenes ever since our last Dev Blog and as Christmas is coming, we thought to give you our present a bit earlier.
And with no further due, let us begin with...
...Last Stand game mode rework.
In the current public version, the Last Stand mode is already in, albeit at a beta phase. We are glad to inform that we have officially concluded its development and now is on par with the other fan favourite game mode we have introduced, Survival. And for that,we have to give a special thanks to one of our team's coders, Lemon Tree, who undertook updating and finishing the code with the help of our main coder, Gambit. So, what is new?
-All vanilla leaders have been coded with their corresponding wargear as available options for their corresponding races alongside the option of using a Kill-Team style squad.
-Available races in the mod have supported profiles as enemies. This means you can even use random for the enemy without hassle. And each has a different approach to how their tactics go!
-Two new (fan favourite) Commanders have been added and implemented. Autarch Kayleth for the Eldar and Lord General Castor for the Imperial Guard.
Kayleth has access to all of her Autarch wargear(including some like the Striking Scoprion gear) that are missing from other versions of her while Castor can call upon his personal Veteran Honour Guard and lead them in battle! All of course have been carefully crafted and implemented as you can normally expect.
-Wargear acquisition revisited:
As you can't have a pre-set wargear setup before a match in DOW1, a compromise had to be made.
Like in the current test, each commander hero gets access to a wargear menu in-game.Where you can pick and choose which equipment fits your playstyle the most.Every upgrade costs resources but are acquired immediately. After each wave is successfully completed, you are awarded with an amount of resources with the most efficient player at that wave getting a bonus(this can be toggle off through a wind condition). As for the Kill-Team Squads, you can instead invest in specialists for your Squad, depending on the situation at hand.In addition, the med packs abilities remain available, should you need a quick heal if in trouble. You will need them for sure.
Please note that for now, the races that have custom heroes added are all 9 vanilla ones and the Emperor's Children compared to the only two heroes available in 5.91.More are planned to be added eventually but a single commander requires as you can imagine, lots of effort and time to get it done properly.
(Example of upgrading Kayleth with Striking Scorpion and Warp Spider gear.)
- Lastly, we are introducing new options to the Last Stand mode, namely the opportunity for a free-for-all fight among the players after the 11 waves are done, to prove who is going to be the last warrior standing! You could say, we have found a way to introduce Battle Royal in DOW1.Coupled with the Last Stand Hardcore, we expect some very intense matches will played.
Here, we should further add that it is not the Last Stand we have been working as additional Game Modes are concerned.Alongside what Fuggles has showcased in his article, we have been working on a secret new Game Mode that we will reveal in the future. However, feel free to try to guess it in the comments!
Moving on, we would like to inform you more of our progress regarding the factions themselves.
Starting with the Death Guard, most of the army is finally done, with only some leftover remaining to be done and revealed(like for example, the long awaited Deathshroud Terminators). The following images are for your viewing pleasure:
Next, we have something you all have been asking us for quite some time. And indeed, we are proud to announce that the Death Korps of Krieg will be part of the upcoming version of Unification. With the main roster of the Krieg army fully complete, we are not overestimating when we say that we believe, it is truly a gem of a race. A huge shoutout to our team member and texturer, Ma_theos33 for working tirelessly on making the textures from scratch and of course, to the lead dev of the DKoK project, Comrade Ork.
If you would like to see more images from Krieg, we tend to post more on our Discord Server and of course, to the DKoK's dedicated ModDB page.
Of course, this does not mean that we have not continued development on the rest.
The Black Templars and the Inquisition Daemonhunters have received their updates fully, as you may have seen already from our posts in the Screenshots.
In our list left to do, like our last time, the Steel Legion update, the Space Marines/Chaos Marines and Orks reworks(which are already underway as we speak) and updates to the Eldar/Dark Eldar and the Necrons(the Tau, as we described last time, have received their updates and are ready).
(The Space Marine Tier 2 Titan, the Reaver is now fully in as part of the SM Roster.)
To conclude, our release plans and promises have not changed. We maintain that the earlier possible release date is in February. However, we have to note that we do not know how real life will follow, so we can't be certain at the moment will be confirmed. One thing is for sure though, we will try our hardest to give you the best experience possible as promised when is done.
Here, we would like to once again, to deeply thank you for your ongoing support and wishes. We are deeply thankful for helping us achieve a position in this Year's Top 100.If you haven't already, please consider voting us for Top 10 if you can.Regardless of your vote you are still getting TTS Dorn's moustache(as Fuggles has remarked) but we can't hide that it means the world to us.
Lastly, from the deepest of hearts, we wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you!
Please take care and do not stop holding that line!
Awesome work like always, and It's great to see so much stuff done, even in these times!
Also, good luck in the MOTY 2021! I voted some time ago, but I haven't commented on it yet, since there was a ton of other Mods, which I voted meanwhile. When there is a mod, which deserves, to be in the Top10 it's definitely the Unification, thou I hope, this year, you will get even in the Top 3.
At the end, I also wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and especially to the Thudmeizer team, for making such an amazing Mod like the Unification is!
Many thanks for your kind words brother!
It truly means a lot to us! :3
Just a note for those whom cant load some of the images in the article. AFAIK one of moddb servers exploded and they are recovering it :P
Happy holidays team, thanks for your great work and dedication you have given to 40K fan and the DOW community as a whole.
May I say that the Storm Guardians did their job well? Because Kekoulis is not on Ecstasy anymore from Fulgrim.
Well this mod deserves to be on top 100 and top 1 this year. Thats why I gave my vote since the voting began.

They did their duty.

I am sure what we have in store for the Eldar will be a good trade off for the consumed souls, hehe.
Happy holidays to you all. Thank you for the great work you do on this mod.
Nice work and a heartfelt hurrah for the Unification team, you guys went from the dark horse mod to the face of the DOW modding community, not just in content and quality, but also in your relations with the community, bringing smaller modders together and helping bring them up too. the top 100 is totally deserved, and you guys deserve a top 10 or even MOTY. I know I'll be cheering you guys on!
Many thanks for your kind words. It is your support brothers and sisters that allows us to move forward.
We just hope what we make will bring you some joy. That is all. :D

Yeah, the Community Unification has built is amazing I have to say.
I am very happy and thankful for how wholesome and friendly it has turned out.
Do you have any idea when you will release the next version?
Or in other words: Which release time do you aim for?
As we have said in the previous article.
February is the earliest expected but not set in stone yet.
What about the Ultramarines? :D
not coming in next version.
It's a big one, so i think it will be worth the wait ;)
Hi, Unification is a really cool mod simple to use and rich in races ... that's why I made a Campaign addon that takes this mod into account. I was able to integrate the Blacks Templars instead of the Spaces Marines for a campaign on Kaurava with of course new maps. (except strongholds)
In any case, thank you to the whole Unification team for giving new life to this superb strategy game.
