Awesome news
Sweet beans.
Ham sandwich!
I saw the new details.
Agree that your "rival" mod was too claustrophobic with the amount of junk, that filled empty spaces.
Good luck man.
Aww hell yeah!
Cant wait for this, it will be an awesome holiday present for DX fans :D
Okay, I was hyped, waiting for this announcement, and it was worth it. Now I'm going top be hyped waiting for the release of 9.0. Maybe I'll do a hardcore run while waiting.........maybe.
Oh my gosh this looks amazing! I still think some of the textures look too "clean" though, like the pavement in the NYC airport. Any plans on tweaking that? I think slightly dirty would make it look so much better.
Will you also fix mantling exploits? iirc I could get to areas I shouldn't have been able to by mantling.
Not much I can do about the mantling except make it optional, which it already is.
Airport texture: give me a skilled texture artist and it'd be possible to have dirty floor textures at the airport that appear natural. It would require a high number of very high res textures though, say, 8 at least. dirty textures that are seamless and spread out over a wide area look terrible, so I'd have to break the floor up into individual blocks and apply the different textures.
That makes sense. I don't know any texture artists though.
Very nice! Can't wait to replay the game on a new version of this mod!
"and you can no longer power-throw corpses with the strength augmentation and splat them up walls like tomatoes for comical effect"
Awww, man!
Well, you can still start a pillow fight and knock everyone out with them so that's something xd
I never asked for this... But thanks :p
You have superb attention to detail, I thought I was the only one who thought Deus Ex had enormous potential and I still thought that way when DX:HR ended up somewhat below my expectations. Though still a good game in its own right! But it didn't capture DX as fully as I truly wanted, particularly with the level design, interaction, dealing with bosses or the intentional favoritism towards hacking/non-lethal gameplay styles, easier health regen & cover system for casual players, aesthetics where completely overdone & lacking subtlety, but I did feel like it took the story in interesting directions and seeing DX gameplay again was great even amongst the odd design decisions.
Mankind Divided is similar in design to HR in almost every way, but the story is not as interesting & the introduction of microtransactions has almost completely put me off on buying it. There is a silver lining to the VG industry, we'll start seeing more independent teams attempting to create spiritual successors with access to triple A level engines & SDK's like UE4 & crowd-funding: Venturebeat.com
After playing both GMDX 8.0 and Revision I have to say: yours is the one true Deus Ex. Revision did some nice things aesthetically (well ok, things "I" think are nice ;) ), but not all (more is somehow less sometimes) and the mechanics are horrible.
Playing GMDX and going back to vanilla (or even Biomod) rules is like playing a full fledged product and being forced to try a vertical slice early alpha tech demo.
The ultimate Deus Ex experience-. Looking forward to jet more mile-stones-
Hey CyberP, in the AI section I think as a selling point for the mod you could've also mentioned the new Agressive Defense System that you gave Walton Simons in the hardcore mode.
...you did give him one, right?
...Please?
Never!
Grmbl!
What I really like about GMDX is that a lot of its stuff is optional. Not only with the difficulty settings where on easy most of the AI changes are disabled, but in the game options menu you can disable and enable so many things it's crazy. It's like create your own Deux Ex experience and that's awesome. I never really played a game before which allowed you so many options.
Although, I do believe mantling doesn't need to be optional, because the original game was seriously lacking this feature. I mean yeah sometimes it might allow you to climb over walls which you aren't supposed to and enter the negative zone xd But most of the time it felt kinda retarded, that a wall/ledge above your waist without the speed/jumping augmentation was your greatest enemy. So I doubt anyone will disable mantling, because then might as well just play the vanilla game without any mods which is for me pretty hard after playing GMDX xd
Goddammit, and I just got to Tracer Tong on 8.0!
Oh well, time to wait again....
>Changes: Will no longer throw corpses with power throw to create splatter effect
NOOOOOOOO! MY FAVORITE PART OF THE GAME!
Then might as well finish the game with v8, because then you will be able to truly see and appreciate the stuff that will be added in v9.
About the corpses being throwable and splatable (are these actually real words or did I just made them up? xd) maybe it could be included as a cheat code just for fun.
I'd just like for somebody to do a let's play of GMDX... there's very little footage of the mod and I would really enjoy watching those of you who've played the game for years doing a playthrough that demonstrates all the new stuff.
YEEEEAAAAAAHHHH!
So awesome how modders have improved Deus Ex (16 years old!) over the years and still are. Makes me shed a tear of joy. :D
Totalitarian you're great!
The update on your website looks fantastic! The visual detail is really impressive and stays true to the original.
It is also nice to see that you add some localizations. Is there any hope to see a translation to german?
If German fans want to translate GMDX I'm happy to officially support it. Your English seems pretty good... ;)
Unfortunately I don't have any modding skills and also at these days I don't have enough spare time.
My version of GMDX/Deus ex is a mixture of german text (from original files) and english text of parts you changed. This is really OK, because the conversation texts are still in German.
So maybe there wouldn't be to much to translate.
I had installed The Revision to finally play through Deus Ex after all these years (only played it when I was younger and don't think I even got halfway to beating it).
Never got around to that.. but now I'm seeing this about to be released and damn, it looks fantastic. The logical explanation of everything on the announcement page for it, plus the ability to disable core changes to things the mod affects..
You've done an outstanding job.
