Post news Report RSS FPS Terminator April 2010 Update (recruting voice talent)

It's been about two months since the last news article, and much has happened since. A 3-act story/plot is now in development, a new mode on paper, a new checkpoint system, sound design and music are being completely renovated, and a new in-engine trailer is also being worked on. a story with interesting characters needs interesting performance. So I'm opening some slots for voice acting.

Many questions about if FPS terminator will have a complete story or not, were being tossed around this ModDB page. Well I'm happy to announce that we do have a solid plot worked on. it's a 3 act story with an intro to the setting and characters, a start of the journey, and a conclusion to that journey. It will have the large scale conflict with the resistance vs the machines, as well as personal struggles with close, fellow comrades and NPCs. there will also be some twists that might be something new to the world of terminator, and I hope they will be accepted well. The finished campaign will be expected to be able to play through in about 6-8 hours, with the story's nine chapters.

But the mod isn't over once the campaign is complete. a second mode will be available called LabRat. I'm working on the mode mostly for the Gears of War fans knowing this mod is for their game. LabRat is hugely inspired by Gears of War's horde mode, where you play as a captive resistance soldier that's place in an arena as a combat test against various terminator prototypes. Like horde waves and enemy types will get increasingly harder the more you play.

I've really wanted to be able to express how tough the T800 terminator is. fighting large numbers of these terminators will likely result in the player dying frequently. this can add some frustration having to restart the level or go back to some checkpoint just to fight that wave all over again. So I've created a Bioshock-like death system where you simply re-spawn a few yards back once killed. this allowed me to make the game easier to play without nerfing the enemies.

As for the audio department. I'm throwing away all my current sound effects, and i'm having them replaced by work being done by incredible sound expert, Ben Sterry, as well as original score by Thom Maggs. They are both very talented sound gurus so please anticipate good audio from this project.

I plan to have another alpha release to hopefully hit Moddb around July. And with that release will come an in-Engine trailer/prologue introducing the world of Terminator and will be narrated through the perspective of Skynet.

Speaking of narration, I'm greatly in need for talented voice actors. If you are able to deliver convincing, emotional, performance through your voice and would love to volunteer with this project, please send me a PM or email me at Narlyteeth@hotmail.com . Make sure to provide samples of your ability.

Well that's all I have to say for now. Please stay tuned for more progress, and get ready for the next Alpha release, July, 2010

Awesome work

Imo the FOV looks a bit wrong.
Dont know if you already planned this (I know its still alpha), but would be cool if those terminators would actually slowly come at you instead of just standing there.

enemies standing in one place is not intentional. the A.I. still need much work.

This looks awesome :D
how hard would it be for you to import it into the UDK and release it as a standalone mod?
If it isnt too much trouble I believe this could be very benificial to your game and to all who want to play it :)
Keep up the good work.

Cheers

Truly amazing stuff. Why not switch over to UDK? You will have much more people able to play your work and have much more flexibility with the engine.

People really don't quite understand that porting a gears of war mod to the udk is not really practical. Fps terminator is a mod that's been built around gears of war. If I was to somehow port Fps Terminator to the UDK, then Gears of War would have to go with it (I'll be basically giving you a free copy of gears of war), which would be considered illegal.

I know having an ambitious project like FPS Terminator would benefit on a more popular platform. But I can't predict the future. When I started this mod early in in 2009, I didn't know Epic would release a free SDK for their engine later that year. Believe me when I say this. I would love to see this mod on UDK just as much as you guys, but I'm always reminded with the cold, hard facts of reality, that it's not a reasonable expectation.
