Post news Report RSS Building the final structure of A2M1

I started working on the final structure in A2M1, the location of the yellow skull key. After this, it's time to slowly start wrapping up the map and prepare it for playtesting.

The final structure

During today's stream, I've started working on the last actual building of the first map of episode 2 and I decided to make something special. The area in the screenshots will obviously serve as the location of the yellow skull key. I've decided to have a certain door require 3 keys to open. The order in which you get those keys doesn't matter. This will make the level even less linear.

I really like the texture combination I used throughout the level and will continue to use throughout the entire second episode. Never thought the Doom 3 texture pack would fit in so well with Doom 2.

Cleaning up

Once the final stones are laid, I can start cleaning up the level, add some details where necessary and make sure the textures are aligned and the level of movement is on point. I hope to get it done by the end of this year but I can't make any promises. I'll do my best!

Since I'm currently involved as a modeler in a brand-new commercial retro FPS, I decided to release the first map of episode 2 as a demo. This way, you won't have to wait that long to experience what episode 2 is all about. The other 3 levels will be finished as soon as possible though, don't worry!

Live development

I've had some great help from my Twitch comunity. I'd like to thank everyone that gives me feedback and tips during my live streams. You guys rock and I will be forever thankful! You can check out the VOD of the latest level design session that led to the creation of the area you see in the screenshots above. Have fun watching and hopefully I'll meet you as well someday!

Thank you! There's still a whole lot of polishing needed but I'm starting to get somewhere.

It looks polished literally too, with that shiny marble-ish floor. Nice effect on a stone texture.
