The MC85 was an aging warship, but served valiantly as the heavy hitter of the Mon Calamari fleets up until the creation of more modern and larger mega warship classes of the Mediator and Viscount lines. The MC85 was a massive Calmarian transport ship converted to battleship. It was heavily armed and defended by 4 powerful shield generators, but lacked heavy armor and had insufficient defenses against fighter craft and corvettes/frigates. The 85 was designed in haste out of necessity to defend core Alliance worlds during the Rebellion. It was more of a mobile artillery platform, armed with 10 triple barrel heavy turbolaser turrets, 33 dual heavy turbolaser turrets and 8 dual heavy beam laser and 4 heavy ion cannons. It's slow speed prevented it from engaging in assault missions, and for defense it was only armed with 62 medium turbos and 25 AA laser, but it did feature a robust hangar capable of launching 2 x-wing, 2 b-wing, 2-awing, 2 x-4 gunships.

We almost decided to remove the 85 from the mod... but it sorta has one of those designs that just tends to grow on you the more you admire it.
We toned it down a bit however, giving it weaknesses of lacking the anti-assault craft weapons and only moderate armor instead of heavy armor. The 85, for as large a ship as it is, only has the same armor as the MC80 Liberty. While the Liberty completely lacks dedicated AA weapons, it is a faster moving ship. The 85 is a slower speed, stronger shielding than the Liberty, and much more heavily armed. It is comparable to the imperial Allegiance-Class Star Destroyer but not as heavily armored and slower, yet better shielded.

oh, so this was just an added bonus, ok i can dig that. are you showing Mon Remonda, Allegiant, or the third class first?
we have actually made a brand new design, 1 design for all 3.
I am trying to justify the poorly written lore that the MC80B was able to hold out against a SSD...
so i have redesigned the ship in a way that I think might be believable for that scenario.

You have increased the amount of guns it the last iteration of this ship by like 2 or 3 times,when compared to the concept. Why?
Reduced actually.
In the first release, EVERY small blister was a firing point for a light laser weapon implied to be concealed within the blister. After researching info, we came to the conclusion that the small blisters on the mon cal ships are actually shield generator modules, which allow for the fast regeneration of shields, note this is different than the actual shield generator which powers the shields. So in terms of gameplay, mon cal ships with many little blisters will have faster shield regeneration compared a star destroyer or new Republic 5th fleet ship.
The original mc85 had 115 of these light laser blisters, in addition to light ion blisters. We reduced this number by removing all light ions and replacing all blister hard points with the now targetable medium lasers and AA turrets.
We are striving hard for a simulated realism. We compare starships to ww2 naval vesses. If you were to build a battleship such as the Yamato, it would look a little strange only having its large guns, and would be ineffective vs smaller faster ships and fighters. Same with our starships. Larger turrets will rotate slower allowing faster ships to get out of range, heavy weapons have terrible accuracy vs smaller ships, only proper AA weapons are effective vs fighters. Sure, in a true scientific sense this makes no sense at all, but in a fictional game settling with sound effects in space, this makes for a great experience.
Every weapon type in our mod has a unique purpose. This is why ships share the same weapons. Each weapon type is being carefully coded to only be effective against different types of ship class and armor value. So when you see a ship using a "heavy armor" texture, you will know that only certain weapon types will be effective against it.
Everything in our mod is designed with purpose, it's not just pretty fluff on the screen ;)
I was actually talking about heavy weapons:4 heavy triple turbos in the concept vs 10 in this version, 17 heavy dual turbos old vs 33 new. So that basically means that you have switched is role from the heavy all-rounder/close-range browler to the niche long-range battleship/carrier? And yeah,sorry for being extra nerdy
ah, that was a typo on the original... i tend to work late an night and when i originally stated 17, i might have only counted 1 side of the ship...
we are talking Star Wars here, how could it be anything but nerdy? and, if that is the role the ship will be in, then that means something else filled the original role
