IHDL
Considered an obsolete weapon by most navies, the IHDL dates back to a time somewhere after the Clone Wars and before the Rebellion. It is a massive weapon battery that fires a highly concentrated proton beam which literally dissolves its target. Massive energy systems were generally needed to fire these weapons and they came at a very high cost, which ultimately led to little public demand. Despite is size and power needs, the weapon is highly deadly, yet like most imperial weapons, limited to a short range.
It found much common acceptance around large scale shipyards where it could also be employed as a cutting laser for disassembling large ship wreckage.
