The Chiss Star Destroyer was based upon the designs of the Empire's Victory Star Destroyer. Removing the bridge and other notable "weak points", the Chiss SD left no visible command center to be easily determined and heavily fortified the hull with reinforced armor plating. Carrying an armament of 8 megamaser heavy turrets, 17 rapid medium turbo turrets, 6 dual medium ion turrets and 8 flank mounted proton torpedo launchers, the ship could easily take down target 2-3 times larger with ease.

While the majority of Chiss ships were only frigate to light cruiser size, the Chiss Star Desroyer was the mainstay battleship for all Chiss opeartions. Only out-sized by the homeworld protector Sauroter and one other command ship, the CSD embodied Chiss space superiority with all other Chiss ships performing support roles to it.

Well no wonder it looks like the victory star destroyer. The Chiss must halved copied it. DO you think they will copy off any other star destroyers?
The Chiss preferred smaller technically advanced ships that could easily be mobilized for different tasks while relying on superior tactics and training.
One would be surprised just how often people forget to read the descriptions...
reverse engineering and perfecting an ISD is probably a bit more complex than a Victory, especially if its the Imp-Deuce.
i think it was Specter of the Past where Talon Karrde stated that there were something like 176,000 flaws in an ISD-2. for one, you've got a bit of a size disparity. an ISD is almost twice the size of a Victory.
i've looked at some of the modified ISD stats on RPGGamer and while i know, they're not canon, they do seem to fit in my view. anyway, the crew compliment of even the modified ISD's or upgraded models tends to be 2-4 times the crew of a VSD.
the VSD-2 is capable of dealing with most threats anyway. save actions requiring a heavy fighter concentration, which could be remedied by modifying the vehicle compliment, trading Juggernauts and AT-ATs for fighters and the facilities with which to launch them. its a 60$ solution to a 100$ problem, if you will. I think with the uprating of the armament might even bring it up to near-ISD-1 levels
also, its said that these ships weren't seen until the Vong war or afterwards, so it may have taken the Chiss up to 20-25 years to get the design to their specifications. had they gone with the ISD 1 or 2, it probably would have taken MUCH longer, given that as the size of a ship increases, the systems required to maintain it tend to be more complex.

Wings will stay closed, opened wings were only used during atmospheric operations for stabilization.
I would imagine based on this description that this would be the equivalent of the New Republic's Nebula-class Star Destroyer, which is my favorite Expanded Universe design
A very close comparison, yes.
Chiss Masers are long range and high damage. Mon Cal turbos are long range standard damage.
The Nebula was stongly shielded and had good armor. The CSD had stronger armor, but slightly weaker shileds. The Nebula had more powerful forward fixed ion cannons but the CSD had more ions on turret positions for greater firing archs. The Nebula had broadside concussion missile attacks; the CSD had broadside proton torpedo attacks. Nebula carried more fighters and had the deadly beam laser turret. The CSD had 8 megamaser turrets, that were all just slightly weaker than then the Nebula's beam turret.
The fight would be an interesting battle indeeed...
Plus the CSD were created in far greater numbers than the Nebula, making the Chiss fleet a very intimidating threat.
How - if it's possible - are you going to handle the Kinetic Energy aspect of Masers?
I would love to see that implemented.

We have our own unique vision of the Chiss, while TR has some great ships models, we have chosen to take a different perspective on Chiss ship designs.
