LOL are there going to be supernovas? (Just joking)
But will the stars cause damage to the ships if they got so close?

The ends of the star shouldn't have the heat effect, as stars are so huge that it's impossible to see that. Set the initial position sphere radious slightly smaller and you have a perfect looking star.

Look at the wiki pic.

We are recreating this.

In this case the goal wasn't a realistic star, but a recreation of the image of Nkllon's star. We might use this as a base for making normal stars in the future though.

Those ships need to jump hyperspace before Nkklon's star vaporizes them. As far as I know, they don't make Shieldships in Star Destroyer size, unless a SSD could be used as one!

That is ******** over there, keep in mind that even the death star II had shields,no need to offend you but if you feel the urgue to make a suggestion you ought to check its validity.

^ I second this statement, people need to check their **** before putting it out for the world to see.

The star won't vaporize them, they got shields and heavy hull plating. They have to make a blind flight though. If you remember the first book of the "Heir to the Empire" Triliogy, Grand Admiral Thrawn send the (I think) "Dead Man's Head" in there. All they had to do was removing the external sensors, communication arrays, etc. and adding hull plating to all window-ish kind of gaps in the hull. There was no problem for the ISD to get into the shadow of Nkklon and still being able to burn the colony to the ground, turn around and fly back.
But Admiral-Ace is right, a shieldship (huge umbrella-ish things, not a ship's shield) had a diameter of around 800 meters, thus the shadow it produces is to small for an ISD. (On this I'm not shure, but I recall, that a Nebulon-B is the biggest class it effectively can protect)

Sorry for the double post, but it bothered me so I looked it up in the novel, it was not the Dead Man's Head, but the Judicator Thrawn send in. And it only had to withstand the light/heat several minutes. So I assume they can withstand longer (1/2 hour or so, the Grand Admiral isn't someone who risks ISDs easyly)
I guess a mechhanic to simulate the heat effect on the ships, apart from a huge debuff on the sensors (melting sensor arrays,...) is difficult to implement. It should be possible to create a similar effect to the asteroid hull damage effect and the nebula effect for the whole map only leaving a small space where the shadow of the planet should be. (Not shure though, it's been quite a while since I last modded EaW)

A mechanic to simulate heat effect is in development... "You may be pleasantly surprised" ;)

NEXT TIME THINK, it was a joke about how Nkklon's Star could destroy those ships because of the radiation, NOT a suggestion. Also, other than the ISD that attacked in the book, I didn't know of a example of large ships that shows how long they would survive. And SSD being used to protect them is because on Wookieepedia it says a SSD's power was "amount equivalent to the total power of a medium star." So that might be plenty for a SSD to survive for a long while.

Some people really need to cool their "nerd rage"... The staff of this mod will correct others. While open discussion and debate is welcome, NO ONE should be attacking any other individual. EVER.

We thank you for being fans and hope you can all discuss politely and civilized. Any comments in disrespectful manner will be deleted.

Really Awesome concept. With the things you are doing I never knew EaW's Engine could support them.

And just to add to the conversation, there is the environmental effect on lava planets where all units receive damage. We will be trying to use this to damage all ships. I also have an interesting idea to have safe zones of protected space created by the shadow of nkklon and shield ships . More to be discussed about that later when we create the map.

with the heat particle it reminds me of the movie Sphere Klusik.cz
you could adjust the halo texture imho. but it looks good, waiting for the video though.
ad damage) why don´t you make it burn all ships only close to it (not over the entire map) and scale the damage with distance from the star?

The novel described any ships this close to the star would sustain tremendous damage. That was the purpose of the shield ships.

Just FYI, the star might be bigger in the actual mod, this version is just for testing. We still have to add planet nkklon in.

So the way you are describing this, some of these may be more like Systems as compared to a Planet.

The star will be a giant prop, 3x larger than the planet. The planet will be placed in the horizontal plane, and the space battle will occur in the shadow of the planet.

Yes, despite some of its flaws, there is a lot of untapped potential with the Alamo engine that has just been overlooked.

Planet Nkklon : WIP

Cheesecake, myself and Seregruth started making an animated Sun for the planet Nkklon about 1 year ago. Thanks to a particle breakthrough developed by Cheesecake, we are happy to showcase our finished results.

The texture of the Sun is animated, please check the video section so see a work in progress (WIP) of our planet Nkklon star. The video will be uploaded soon.
