War of the Silmarils is a sub-mod of Third Age: Total War, the ever popular total conversion for Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms. The goal is to follow the lore as closely as possible and faithfully reproduce the heroic First Age of Tolkien's Middle-earth in the Medieval II: Total War engine. War of the Silmarils features many new unique factions, each complete with a roster of units, a completely new campaign map of Beleriand and the lands to the North, and much more. So if you're one of the many who have been enthralled by Tolkien's mystical world, this is a mod to watch!

Feanor the Smith was an Elf of Valinor who was made the greatest of all and he surpassed all in might and valour and skill at arms and in the making of things. It was he that made the Three Silmarils, in those gems capturing a light so delightful, even the Valar were enthralled by it. However, he was proud and haughty and brought the kindred of the Noldor into rebellion against the Valar themselves, and rallied his folk to a march into the East, for he sought to break free from all bonds.

Only those of the most fiery and imperious moods followed Feanor in his van, among them the Guard of the House of Feanor, nobles and knights of great skill at arms and in making things who were of similar mind and mettle to Feanor; impetuous and flame-filled. They are enduring beyond compare, fearless and within them burns hot a flame, a fire that leads them to acts of bravery and daring few can hope to match.

These warriors are feared indeed by all, even by the other Elven kindreds, for it was they that started the slaughter of the Teleri on the piers of Alqualonde and seized the ships there and partook in many fell slayings of men, Elves and orcs. They are sworn to guard with their very lives the Sons of Feanor, and they aid them in all their endeavours to reclaim the Silmarils, although they themselves have taken not The Oath of Feanor. About the Sons of Feanor these knights array themselves in battle, slaying any that stand between them and a Silmaril or threaten the designs and lives of their Lords, be their foes Elves, Men, Dwarves or Orcs, they shall cleave their helms and split their shields. In fine armour theses knights are clad; upon their heads they bear tall helms of scintillating metal with a red plume, made of a steel able to turn away many a blow before being rent. In fine mail, that few darts can pierce, they are clad and overtop that they bear cloaks of red and they fly high the devices of the Sons of Feanor: the Star of their fallen Lord and the Silmarils which they and their Lords seek after with zeal. On steeds of Valinor the Guard of the House of Feanor is mounted, steeds of great nobility and bravery, well matched for the knights they bear on their backs and enduring as them. The approach of the Guards of the House of Feanor is like thunder rolling across the plain, and the earth shudders and shakes under their advance, and underfoot all are trampled that stand in the way of their charge.
