They weren't in the books, but Théoden briefly mentions them in the RotK film, asking where the Riders from Snowbourn were. So we put a face to the name, I guess. Wonder why they weren't at Dunharrow, though...
I always assumed that because of them being so close to Edoras, they were too few in number due to all the pre-Helms Deep raids from Isengard or having riders 'banished' and exiled by Wormtongue - in my head canon, unfortunately there weren't many riders left to head out to Dunharrow...

This isn't the official story, as to my knowledge there isn't a set scenario for what actually happened, but in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age, which was, for those who don't know, a turn based combat rpg, the riders of Snowbourn did not show due to their village and surrounding lands being almost completely razed by the marauding Uruk-Hai.
So ConTheJedi was mostly right by his head cannon.
