The Great War mod is a total conversion modification for Napoleon: Total War. It creates an authentic representation of World War 1-era tactics, strategies and general warfare within the game. Including stunning new visuals that include entirely new models and textures for equipment, vehicles and more, the mod immerses you into the era with brand new gameplay unlike anything you've experienced in Total War before.

Bear in mind guys that there are many more infantry units for Germany, almost all of them already done, they just aren't shown here. This image was a test to see if all of the various heavy pieces of equipment loaded together OK.

Will any of them be wearing the Pickelhaube? The Prussian spiked helmet?

Early war German regulars have the Pickelhaube. Late war units come with the Stahlhelm.

No, not just the Guards. ALL German units wore the Pickelhaube, excepts Jägers (who wore a shako), Hussars (who had a fur busby), Uhlans (who wore a czapka), Landsturm (who had a peaked cap with oilcloth cover) and non-Bavarian artillery (who wore a Kugelhaube, i.e. with a ball instead of a spike).

The Pickelhaube (which was made of boiled leather with brass fittings) was obsolete though, and replaced with the steel helmet during the war.

Will late war officers have the pickelhaube? just a minor question, but the evolution of units is awesome!

They will not, all the units switched to steel helmets, you dont want your officers to have "SHOOT ME" signs´on their heads do you?^^

Well in historic terms, German officers wore the helmet all throughout the war, the helmet only degraded in quality due to the dying German war effort

No, officers on the frontline switched to steel helmets at the same time as the rest. They did not keep the spiked helmet the whole war, for very obvious reasons.

I have been following this mod for years, eventually I forgot about N:TW and this mod until recently where I found my N:TW disc and remembered about this mod and wow, I'm awe struck. I remembered how excited I was when I heard you guys were going to try to incorporate tanks, literally the day after I did my class presentation on WW1 tank's, I'm now in college just as I read you guys are too. So much progress has been done, not going to lie but this mod is really beautiful, those models look so real. Im looking at my tank encyclopedia to compare your models and the models are right on the money. I'm amazed and disappointed at the same time, I really thought this would of been done by now. Still, Im glad that a lot of progress has been made. Im looking forward to the release.

Why 187 infantrymen? Is that like a german platoon, or just a random number for the test?

It's 200 men per unit, but the unit scale used effected it slightly in this example.

Don't worry buddy, the next version will have 4 different scale options so you can play how you like, from small unit skirmishes to ridiculously epic clashes.

In other news, I am ridiculously excited for this mod :D
