The Garry Story: Legacy Edition mod for Portal 2

What is this?:

This mod was a map made for the Portal Mapping and Modding community’s open world contest. The idea of the map is that it will resemble The Stanley Parable due to its open world nature, but instead of Stanley the mod follows a man named Garry, and his story. Little has been changed from the original release, though some modifications have been made to ensure a fun and playable experience.

History:

The Garry Story started as two projects between Tinnedfoil906 and MEVAR448 (formerly MrBlackMesa1) for the Portal Modding And Mapping Discord server’s competition to make an open world portal 2 map Because they were making a map both themed around The Stanley Parable, Tinnedfoil906 and MEVAR448 decided to team up and work together on the map, their team grew as they recruited CyberneticZ, and Spoops to music and narration respectively. Still MEVAR448 and Tinnedfoil906 when in a bit over their head and had to messily finish some endings or even leave them unfinished, these “remnants” can be found in the mod, some more obvious then others.

However it became most apparent that the mod was too big once the project they used to pack it failed, and every single packer afterwards, this forced them to ask the head of the competition for an extension, which was provided. When it was released the map was seen as buggy, and got last place in the modding competition, this encouraged Tinnedfoil906 and MEVAR448 to expand their group even more and make a bigger Stanley Parable mod and a remake of The Garry Story! It’s worth noting at this time a small mapper named BozLabs took inspiration from The Garry Story and started working on his own Stanley Parable mod, this was seen by MEVAR448 and Tinnedfoil906 and they decided to recruit BozLabs for the mod which was now being called The Ultimate Parable. However during this time MEVAR448 and TinnedFoil906 were starting to have difficulties, these only worsened as time progressed, eventually it got so out of hand it forced MEVAR448 and BozLabs to leave The Ultimate Parable. Now separated, BozLabs and MEVAR448 decided they wanted to work on their own Stanley Parable mod, they called it The Unnamed Mod, then changed it to The Office Parable, however during this time the whole experience from TUP left a bad taste in Tinnedfoil906 and MEVAR448’s mouth of Stanley Parable mapping and little to no work was being done on either mod. Though, later on BozLabs rejoined The Ultimate Parable and now both projects are making progress.

• BozLabs: Trying to get motivated to work on TOP, and being forced to write articles about TGS
