The Citizen is set parallel to the events of the original Half-Life 2. The player takes the role of an ordinary man, pushed over the edge by the oppressive regime controlling his life. His home trashed, his family dead, The Citizen leaves his apartment for the last time. He seeks new friends, and a way to help the human resistance to smash the iron grip of the Combine. What follows is a winding tale of betrayal, determination and grief. Many obstacles lie in his path which require a sleek combination of agility, stealth, intelligence, and sheer violence to overcome

Description

This patch fixes most issues related to engine branch incompatibility and is designed to run using the latest "Beta" of Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer. Instructions on how to install and use it are within the archive.

I cleared my mod folder from sourcemods and reinstalled "The Citizen" version 1.1, along with it's patch 2010, and my fix applied to it.

It works fine.

Make sure you are using the 'Upcoming' beta of the Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer.

You should also verify the integrity of your game's files. This might be the cause
of your crashes, as you have invalid/corrupt game files.

You can perform this check by doing the following:

- Right-click on Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer.
- Go to the "Local Files" tab.
- Click "Verify Integrity of Tool cache..."
- Wait until game cache inspection is completed.

If you experienced other crashes/bugs, I would appreciate if you could give me more
information about the nature of these events.

Thank you for your interest.

I got the game to work, somewhat. When I launch it and click "new game", it does not pull up any options to start one with. Please fix this.

I downloaded the 1.1 version of "The Citizen", along with both 2010 and Source SDK 2013 patch.

It works.

Make sure that you are using the Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer
beta 'upcoming'. If not, this is the reason why the mod is not starting.

- Right-click on Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer.
- Go to the "Betas" tab.
- Change "Select the beta you would opt into" option to "incoming"

Another cause is that you have corrupt/invalid game cache.
You should verify the integrity of you game caches.

You can perform this check by doing the following:

- Right-click on Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer.
- Go to the "Local Files" tab.
- Click "Verify Integrity of Tool cache..."
- Wait until game cache inspection is completed.

Here is a video that demonstrate how to install mods to work with Source SDK 2013 patches.

The procedure is the same for every mod with Source SDK 2013 patches.

- Extract the content of version 1.1 to "The Citizen"
- Apply the content of the 2010 patch.
- Apply the content of the Source SDK 2013 patch.
- Restart Steam.

If you still encounter problems, please let me know.

Thank you for your interest.

I almost gave up on it. The trick for me was enabling beta on Source SDK. It probably doesn't matter, but I also loaded it into Source SDK using the readme instructions in this latest patch.

Keeping in mind, I did all that after getting the first 'version 1.1' zip, patching it with the second zip file, and only then getting this third zip file and patching again.

I am unable to download this patch. Windows 10 Defender detects and removes the zip file stating that it is infected with "Spursint.A!cl"

You need Half-Life 2 installed.

This is because most Source engine game modifications require content such as models, materials, sounds from those games.

When you will have it installed, ensure that you have launched Half-Life 2 at least once. Restart Steam and try again.

If you have other questions, or if it does not work, you can send me a PM and I we will discuss this more in depth.

Thank you for your interest.

I have a little question I was hoping you could answer, how do I add custom models and skins to this as well as the citizen returns?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

@Ghostkoto

To use new models or skins for replacement, you need to download them from websites, such as garrysmod.org and put them in their respective replacement folders.

.i.e

A custom pistol model usually would have the name v_pistol.mdl, along with other such as v_pistol.vvd, v_pistol.sw.vtx.

This model is found in folder 'models/weapons/...' which also contains many other 'viewmodel' model files.

As for materials, if you would replace the pistol texture, then you would have to replace a file named v_pistol_sheet.vtf, which resides in folder 'materials/models/weapons/v_pistol/...'

I do hope this answers your questions. If not, feel free to send me a private message and I will do my best to explain to you in detail.

Hi, I have a couple custom skins for Half Life 2 and place them in the 'custom' folder. Does The Citizen take its materials from the Half Life 2 folder or from its own? if so, How can I get it to use the 'custom' folder. Thank you.

@quanvicuong

I am not really familiar with the custom folder.
I still am using the old method of replacing skins by replacing
the mod content with those.

I believe it should work, since the gameinfo.txt allows to mount
content from the Half-Life 2 'custom' folder.

Don't the SDK bases have them as well?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

@dOgE+2

To answer your question:

Source SDK Base include a few materials but only those needed for development purpose (orange and black), along with other materials and models used to work with the level editor.

It does not include choreography or any other sounds found in the base game. When users see them in the editor, it is due to content being mounted, thus taken from the base games such as HL2 and it's episodes, Portal, etc.

If you have other questions, please let me know.

@PyroScorcher75

The only possible reason for this is that a model
named blackout.mdl cannot find the animation 'exit1',
which is responsible for playing 'wake up' sequence.

Are there any error messages that appear in the console?
Is it possible that

I have not encountered this issue. Make sure that the
gameinfo.txt found the archive has replaced the one from
the original mod.

@ToasterPyro,

You need to download the Citizen v1.1 along with it's 2010 patch.

Moddb.com

Moddb.com

Once this is done, install these in the following order:

1- v1.1
2- 2010
3- Source SDK 2013 patch

If you are not enlisted in the Source SDK Base 2013 beta, you
have to change it to 'upcoming'. (See install instructions
in readme_fix.txt)

Restart Steam.

You should have 'The Citizen' showing up in your game list.

If you have other questions, please let me know.

Hello,

I do apologize for the delay of my response.

I am afraid I am unable to reproduce the issue
you have experienced. I downloaded the mod, applied
the necessary patches along with the Source SDK 2013 Base
Singleplayer fix and played through 'Holy war'.
Everything appears to be working correctly.

If you still encounter this issue, I would appreciate
if you could list steps needed to reproduce this issue
and I could try to have a look at it when I would find
sufficient spare time.

Please try the following:

- Create a folder named 'The Citizen' in your
Sourcemods folder.

- Download 'The Citizen v1.1' on ModDB and extract
it to the folder 'The Citizen'.

- Download the 2010 july patch on ModDB and extract
it to the folder 'The Citizen'. Overwrite every
existing file when prompted to.

- Download The Source sdk 2013 steampipe patch on
ModDB and extract it to the folder 'The Citizen'.
Overwrite every existing file when prompted to.

- Make sure you have installed the 'Source SDK Base 2013
Singleplayer' from the 'Tools' section in Steam.

- Right click on 'Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer'
and click 'Properties'. Go to the 'Betas' section
and select 'upcoming' from the dropdown.

- Restart Steam.

- The Citizen should appear in your Steam game library.

If this does not work, I recommend that you refer
to the readme_fix.txt found in the Source 2013 patch
'The Citizen' archive. If you still encounter issues,
please let me know and I will try to help you.
