Star Wars: Interregnum is an upcoming mod for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion that builds off of the highly successful Enhanced 4X Mod. Fleeing the unknown terror that is chasing the Vasari, the factions of Sins of a Solar Empire stumble on a temporary wormhole that takes them to a galaxy far, far away. The sudden arrival of armadas with trillions of refugees and thousands of warships between the events of Episodes 5 & 6 forever alters the Star Wars universe and plunges the galaxy into an unprecedented period of chaos and violence. While the Rebellion had been using SoroSuub built ships since the beginning, the largest of which was the Dauntless class Heavy Cruiser, the company truly only got on board as a major warship manufacturer after the creation of the New Republic. It's main product was the Liberator class Cruiser, a powerful assault carrier that was well armed and could still bring a fighter combat wing into battle.
As Sullust was one of the first worlds liberated after the Battle of Endor, SoroSuub had a bit more time to design its contribution to the New Republic fleet. The result was an exemplary vessel for its size, capable of defending itself with numerous turbolasers and ion cannons, while launching fighter craft for additional offensive options. It was also one of the most efficient vessels in the New Republic fleet until the final New Class vessels were brought online.
In the mod, the Liberator serves as the New Republic "Assault Carrier", similar in role to the MC40. It has superior armament compared to the Mon Calamari ship but is not quite as durable and lacks the upgraded cluster bombs to deal with attacking starfighters.
Ah there she is, I should of known the Liberator would come to the NR. Though surprised shes playing the same role as the MC40 or is she still in the Carrier spot but is just a buff carrier rather than straight up cruiser?
Huh? Both the MC40 and Liberator are "Assault Carriers", which is basically a carrier cruiser and heavy cruiser combined. The only other carrier role would be the standard unarmed carrier, and the Liberator is clearly too well armed for that.
Oh I just thought the MC40 was classed as like a cruiser by Sins rather than Assault Carrier. Then again I never really saw the MC40 itself anything other than a Medium cruiser
Assault Carrier is a "class" of ship only the Alliance has, but as I said its a carrier/heavy cruiser hybrid. It's not really a technical classification by either Sins or Star Wars.
Ah don't worry about it I was sleep deprived when I wrote those. However you did answer my question if she was going to be in the Carrier slot or not.
Couldn't the dreadnaught or enforcer fit into that class?
Well I see those ships more as heavy armored cruisers with a small fighter compliment. That's why they have a "small" squad of TIE Fighters, instead of a full fighter or bomber squadron.
I've been a fan of this design since it first appeared in Rebellion. Many thanks for bringing this model much needed attention. Do you have plans to incorporate more Rebellion models into your mod (i.e. the CC-7700 and CC-9600 frigates or even the Bulwark Battlecruiser)?
Edit: Of course when I say "Rebellion" I am referring to Star Wars: Rebellion that was released for PC in 1998 by Lucasarts not the expansion to Sins we are playing now :)
Well we already have the Dauntless. I haven't actually played Rebellion myself, but to be honest the CCs and Bulwark don't really fit the more modern style we have in mind for the New Republic. The Liberator on the other hand fit in quite nicely.
If there's a particular need for them I would certainly add them, but so far there have been other ships that do the job better in my opinion.
