Star Wars: Interregnum is an upcoming mod for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion that builds off of the highly successful Enhanced 4X Mod. Fleeing the unknown terror that is chasing the Vasari, the factions of Sins of a Solar Empire stumble on a temporary wormhole that takes them to a galaxy far, far away. The sudden arrival of armadas with trillions of refugees and thousands of warships between the events of Episodes 5 & 6 forever alters the Star Wars universe and plunges the galaxy into an unprecedented period of chaos and violence. Begun, a new conflict has.
Now that 3.4 Alpha is out, I decided to revisit some of the New Republic stuff coming in a future update. This is the Champion Class. It's a large vessel that will serve as the New Republic's Heavy Cruiser. It's based on a precursor to the Nebula that is sometimes referred to as the Defender Class but that conflicted with some other content so it has a new moniker here.
The original model was made by EvilJedi. I did a little clean-up on the mesh, gave it a new UV layout and a fresh set of textures in the style of the Nebula and Endurance. I think it should fit well in the fleet roster now that it shares the family colors.
We actually teased a picture of the original model of this ship, before Dolynick reworked it. Anyone who doubts how awesome a job Dolynick does while texturing should look at the original model. Once again it almost looks like a different ship.

Certainly one heck of an improvement in the after picture!
The difference is night and day, no comparison
That excessive hull plating is so bad, as it was with one of the mon cal cruisers, glad you guys retextured it.
The size of the plating on the original wasn't so bad, but the implementation looked rather dated, in my opinion. A lot of the older models have very strong (overdone, again in my opinion) line art which is couple with lower resolution and some noise. Then it gets included in the normals and it creates this... metallic pillow effect kind of look. Not a fan of that so I'm trying to address it as I can.
The original was also a bit monotonous in it's application as well.
Holy crap. Sleek yet screams of raw power at the same time. More like pocket battleship!
Don't know why, but kinda reminds me of some of the ATF capital ships from the X series...
It basically is, as it was an off shoot of the same program that created the Nebula Star Destroyer.
It really is. When I was preparing it I noted it was taking quite a while because it was more complex a mesh than I expected. I did note that it could easily be a capital ship mesh if needed - although I would scale it up in size a bit for that.
Man, it looks like it can crush other heavy cruisers like cheap toys. Something tells me that it might be on the expensive side, resources and fleet supply...
I would brace yourself for a lot of New Republic ships being that way. Especially their frigates/cruisers.
Would no doubt hobble their ability to expand too aggressively, which, if I remember, IS one of their intended characteristics?
Interesting.
P.S. You mentioned that despite the visual effects, heavy cruisers can only engage one enemy at a time? Will that still be true if they are beefy bois like the Champion?
I think he means that they will only have one target per bank capacity. That doesn't mean that they are actually limited to one target. Weapons to the sides and rear can target separately. They just won't be able to fire at multiples on the same side (like a starbase or titan in the stock game).
Much better
sweet
For a moment i saw an Epoch-class heavy carrier.
I will make fleets of this vessel.
I like it
She's a beauty alright!
BRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOMG
now there's a ship worthy of the New Republic.
I cannot say how much I love the look of this ship.
im'a use this a lot
