Every release I post a picture of my favourite way to track progress on general content: my whiteboard. Here's the 1.0 edition for Ascendancy. It has some things we've shown, and some things we haven't mentioned at all (like the UOL, but that's for different reasons). Note that although this has most of the new stuff, it's not exhaustive in any way.
For units, black means done, blue means not done and red means done but ideally should be redone before release. Also, where the PA says IPV, it should be Arquitens. Not that my handwriting is legible.

What about the Vong? They been scrapped or is it still a known unknown kind of thing?
Regardless of what we do or don't do for the Vong, they were never intended for 1.0; Ssi-Ruuvi and Hapans are still only "militia" forces too.

Why not a random event?
If a Vong fleet warps to your star and starts attacking everything it would be pretty cool
