Section III - ABOUT
The purpose of this mod was to be a tribute to the TNG era Star Trek series (The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager). It serves as a supplement to the Millenium Project by further modifying ship strength, scaling, and weapons to be reflective of abilities seen on screen. Gameplay balance is achieved by adjusting resource cost and build time rather than creating parity with individual ship strength. Take control of the fleet in new mission maps that will re-enact historic engagements such as the Battle of Cardassia. I hope this gameplay experience will allow the user to capture the on-screen feeling of TNG Era trek battles.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
***For most realistic experience, play with the "Director's Cut" option ON!***_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Section IV - WHAT HAS CHANGED?
The main changes to this mod involve the ODF Files (ship strength, ship build cost, ship names, conventional weapons, and special weapons), AI Build Lists, and Tech Tree Files. Generally speaking, ships are scaled based on size and strength in comparison to the Federation's Galaxy Class. However, more attention has be given to ship maneuverability. Scouts, Destroyers, and Cruisers are now more maneuverable than Battleships. Projectile weapons now have worse accuracy than phasers. Special weapons now are for the most part "free," and are 90% or so limited to special weapons seen on screen. Some special weapons from the stock Star Trek Armada game remain but are not available until the final tech level. Tech trees have been simplified to 5 tech levels per race based on Star Trek chronological technology, rather than ship classes. Thus, battleships may be available as early as Tech Level 2.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Section IVA - SINGLE PLAYER
Although this mod will work with single-player campaign, it may not be much of a challenge. The new tech trees are incompatible with the single-player AI. To play the single-player campaign, use the Millenium project original version, or the stock "vanilla" install. As a consolation, new mission maps are available (outlined in Section VIII).
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Section IVB - INSTANT ACTION
Skirmish mode now features new maps, the Dominion Alliance and Federation Alliance as seen in Deep Space Nine as playable races, and new compatible AI build lists that should be challenging. The AI will retain its "personality" from the Millenium Project mod. The AI will construct fleets that resemble on-screen fleet composition. For example, the Federation will use diverse fleets, the Dominion and Klingons will prioritize smaller attack ships, and the Borg will send mostly cubes.
Cloaking - The AI will no longer cloak in skirmish mode. Although this is pictured as a tactical advantage on screen, the AI cannot seem to resist cloaking sending entire cloaked fleets directly into bases that have confirmed detection capability, only to get obliterated. For game balancing purposes, cloaking has been edited out of the AI's preference. Cloak detection has also been limited to sensor arrays only. No ship on-screen has shown the ability to detect cloaks by itself, and it is too much of an advantage. To find cloaked ships, establish sensor posts on the map or utilize each race's spy vessels (all races can now either spy or capture stations).
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
SECTION V - NEW RACES OVERVIEW
FEDERATION - The Federation features most of the canon vessels seen in the TNG Era. There is a wide selection of ships with varying capabilities. Federation ships have strong shields, complete firing arcs, and good maneuverability. The Federation super weapon is the Temporal Stasis Field, available at Tech Level 5. Federation hero ships include the USS Enterprise-E, USS Enterprise-D (Riker's Galaxy X), USS Avenger, the Delta Flyer, USS Premonition, Excalibur-Class (Fan created Dreadnought with added elements from the USS Discovery and USS Vengeance), and the Sovereign X-Class (Mod creator's starship). The Federation is slightly stronger than the Klingons and Romulans, especially at the later tech levels.
ALPHA ALLIANCE - The Alpha Alliance contains the Federation, Klingon, and Romulan vessels, as seen in the TNG Era. Selecting the Alpha Alliance makes any of the three races playable with their full tech trees. The AI will construct fleets according the Federation Alliance build list (see SECTION IV). THE DEFAULT ALPHA ALLIANCE AI IS SET TO USE KLINGONS ONLY.
Klingons- The Klingons are part of the ALPHA ALLIANCE, with a limited number of ships. Klingon vessels generally have strong weapons, forward firing arcs and good maneuverability. The Klingon super weapon is the Jach'eng ship, availabe at Tech Level 5. Klingon hero ships include Martok's Negh Var and the IKS Hegh'ta (Kurn's K'Vort).
Romulans - The Romulans are part of the ALPHA ALLIANCE, with a limited number of ships. Romulan vessels have strong weapons, forward firing arcs, and poor maneuverability. The Romulan super weapon is the Phoenix ship, available at Tech Level 5. The Romulan hero ship is Sela's Warbird. This mod includes the Reman Scimitar as a buildable ship!
DOMINION - The Dominion Alliance features the canon Dominion, Cardassian, Breen, and Son'a ships shown in DS9 and Star Trek Insurrection. Dominion Alliance ships have very powerful conventional and special weapons but weak shields and forward firing arcs. The Dominion super weapon is the Son'a isolytic bursts, available at Tech Level 5. Dominion hero ships include Weyoun's Battlecruiser and the Orias system's fleet of Keldons. The Dominion are slightly stronger than the Alpha Quadrant races. Be prepared for a challenge!
BORG - The Borg features most of the canon vessels seen in the TNG Era. Borg ships have extraordinarily strong shields, complete firing arcs, and poor maneuverability. The Borg super weapon is the Transwarp Gate, available at Tech Level 3. Borg hero ships include Locutus’s Cube and the Borg Queen's Diamond. Borg Cubes are now as formidable as seen on screen. It will take a competent battle group to bring one down. Therefore, Borg Cubes are expensive and take long to build. The Borg are difficult to beat; a bit stronger than the other races. Captain Picard may hold the key...
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
SECTION VI - TACTICS
I hope this mod encourages different tactics beyond just spamming as many battleships as possible. Although they are still the strongest ships, battleships take a long time to build and are not as effective without a balanced battle group around them. Destroyers and cruisers have improved firepower (closer to parity), making them cheaper alternatives. Better maneuverability allows them added survivability in battle and they are effective at drawing fire away from the larger ships in a fleet.

SECTION VII - NEW MISSION MAPS
Included in this mod are five "mission" maps that re-enact classic battles seen in the TNG Era. To play these missions, load up Instant Action and play the corresponding map with "Map Units" selected. Make sure the faction \ and starting location match as they are listed below:
BATTLE OF CARDASSIA - FEDERATION (TEAM 1, BOTTOM) VS. DOMINION (TEAM 2, TOP): This is the battle depicted in the Ds9 finale, "What You Leave Behind." As team 1, the Federation Alliance of a joint Federation, Klingon, Romulan, and Cardassian task force will have to defeat team 2, the Dominion Alliance of Dominion, Cardassian, Breen, and Son'a forces in orbit of Cardassia Prime. The Dominion begin the battle with a well-established base and resource control of the map. The Federation Alliance has a superior starting fleet, but no established base.
OPERATION RETURN - FEDERATION (TEAM 1, BOTTOM) VS. DOMINION (TEAM 2, TOP): This is the engagement depicted in Ds9 season 6, "Sacrifice of Angels." As team 1, the Federation task group near Starbase 375, and the Klingon reinforcements must power their way through a fleet of Dominion and Cardassian ships in blockade formation in front of Terok Nor and Bajor. As team 2, the Dominion begin the battle with resource control of the map and established shipyards that are safe beyond the wormhole in the gamma quadrant. The Federation must move quickly before the reinforcement advantage can spill through the wormhole and overwhelm them.
BATTLE OF SECTOR 001 - BORG (TEAM 1, BOTTOM) VS. FEDERATION (TEAM 2, TOP): This is the epic battle in Star Trek: First Contact. As team 1, a single Borg Cube plots its approach into the heart of the Federation. As team 2, the Federation has a well-established base, resource control, and an opening battle group to repel the Borg invasion. Unfortunately, bringing down even a single Borg Cube is a monumental task...
GALACTIC CONQUEST - FEDERATION (TEAM 1, CENTER) VS. DOMINION (TEAM 2, BOTTOM LEFT) VS. BORG (TEAM 3, UPPER RIGHT): This is a battle for control of the Star Trek Galaxy. The Federation alliance has a foothold at Earth, Romulus, Qo'nos, and Deep Space Nine. The Dominion alliance has a Cardassian base at Cardassia Prime, and Dominion shipyards in the Gamma Quadrant. The Borg have an established base in the Delta Quadrant. To win, rid the Galaxy of the other factions...
FIRST BATTLE OF DEEP SPACE NINE - FEDERATION (TEAM 1, TOP) VS. ALPHA ALLIANCE (TEAM 2, BOTTOM): This is the climactic battle depicted in DS9's "Way of the Warrior." The Federation has newly upgraded Deep Space Nine, the Defiant, and small fleet of reinforcements en route to help repel a massive Klingon attack force led by Changeling Martok. Gul Dukat is also under seige by a Klingon task force (saving him may foster an alliance). You are also free to explore a bit of the Gamma Quadrant, at your own risk...

SECTION VIII - MAPS
This mod features a total of six added playable maps for Skirmish mode. All five "mission" maps from SECTION VII can be played as conventional skirmish maps in Instant Action. There are also two additional multiplayer maps, usable for up to 8 players:
WARZONE 2 - This map is a based-on Warzone from Star Trek Armada II. Each starting location is roughly equidistant from neutral resources.
MILKY WAY - Like GALACTIC CONQUEST, this map is a microcosm of the Star Trek galaxy. Starting locations are at each race's respective homeworld.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
SECTION IV - EXTRA BUILD LISTS
To accommodate the Dominion as a playable race, Alpha Quadrant races have been combined into the ALPHA ALLIANCE faction. Selecting this faction allows a player to use the Federation, Klingons, Romulans, or any combination of the three. When playing against the AI, the ALPHA ALLIANCE faction will build according to the "klingon_build_list.aip" file. Build lists for all combinations of ALPHA ALLIANCE opponents have been included. The default is for the AI to build Klingons only. To install, open the desired opponent from the "Extra Build Lists" folder and do the following:
Installation:1) Make a copy of the desired race(s) build list file.
2) Remove the capitalized label for the copied file. The new file will be "klingon_build_list"
3) Copy this "klingon_build_list" AIP file into the your game location file path: C:\<INSTALLATION LOCATION>\Star Trek Armada\AI\AIPs
2) Click "yes" when prompted to overwrite the existing file.
To Uninstall, repeat steps 1-4 using the "DEFAULT klingon_build_list" file from the Default Klingon folder. This will restore the Klingons as the primary build list.
