Hello, stalkers.

I'm currently playing recon, and I was thinking about some alternative builds, and it came to my mind the matching of a silenced sniper rifle ( the "obrez" mosin is the one I'm aiming for, I don't know if I can attach a supressor though) with a light SMG, I think it would be great for quick incursions, eliminating heavily armored enemies with precision and diversifying my ammo use, could this build work? Is it worth to use low proficiency guns?

IMHO, No. Medium proficiency is of negligible impact. So, you can use all weapons with medium or high proficiency, but should use low proficiency only when out of ammo for other shooters. You will be less accurate, have more recoil, slower aim, etc,. with low proficiency weapons.

IRT the Mosin, it can not take a silencer. Any rifle with decent specs and 4-5x zoom can be used for sniping. It doesn't need to be a 'Sniper' rifle. Finding actual Sniper rifles with 6-8X zooms can yield great scopes which may be able to be attached to a better proficiency weapon for you. You need to use a special weapon dismantling kit to yield a scope. I prefer the non-bolt action rifles for considerably higher ROF and magazine capacities. The second I obtain an AR and 5x scope, I toss my Honorary Mosin aside and never use another bolt action.

Playing at the lowest FOV you can stand yields much larger targets at all zoom levels and makes sniping with an AR much easier too.

I had the sniper rifle idea for two reasons, I remember reading somewhere that the proficiency only affected the weapon condition and it's jam rate, and I wanted it also because it packs a punch, I didn't actually want to snipe with them (in my mind it would be close to a supressed 12ga, if used in close/medium range combat), but I think it's really not worth, since I won't have it's full potential. And one more thing (to avoid opening a new thread) do you know if there is any .357 weapons, suitable for the recon class, that could support a supressor?

I would defer most weapons related questions to mp5lng at TAZ, he is our Gunsmith. I never use pistols, but the .45's probably pack the biggest punch and take a silencer.

IRT the proficiency just taking the 1891 and comparing Sniper vs. Recon stats the following are different:

Dispersion (accuracy), Inertion (handling), and step_angle_horz (recoil).

Wear factors and jamming remain unchanged; those change between weapons of different tiers (rusty, worn, old, corroded, modern, etc.)

I didn't download TAZ, do you think he still could help me? And thanks a lot for your time .

If we don't have such a weapon, he will know if he is working on one. TAZ is not yet available for 2.2.

Obrez wouldnt be too suited for sniping due to its lack of attachments, meant to be some budget cqb gun or something. Though itnt great in this role either as it comes with tiny bullets. You can get the bigger mosins to shoot bigger bullets, not the obrez though. You gotta shoot them in the mouth if they wear any sorta armor or you risk getting minced. And the Deagles r 357, u can put a silencer on these to make it sounds like a 9mm but then why use deagle at all really. Id get a p99 and a tuxedo if I wanted to be sneaky.

You can compare the proficiency differences between classes exactly by looking at their class specific cfgs.

\gamedata\class_diversity\assaulter\gamedata\configs\weapons

(Change assaulter to X class to see it's stats)

And armor in

\gamedata\class_diversity\sniper\gamedata\configs\misc\items\outfit.ltx

This also allows you to edit class proficiency. I recommend care when doing this as to not make the game too easy. :P

Few things I did for example was to fix the few bullpup weapons that recon did not have high proficiency for, since it says he is supposed to have high prof for all bullpups.

Also gave recon high proficiency for ghillie suite as he has an inherent stealth bonus and I personally find stealth recon playstyle very fun. A bit harder than stealth sniper as you have to close up to be effective and are about as glass cannon as you can be, without the advantage of long range the sniper has when using ghillie. If I remember correctly the only change for the ghille med-high proficiency is stamina.
