Old ammo spawns as normal but, when you move it into your inventory, it's automatically turned into new ammo of the right sort.
((EDIT: Another mod that removes old ammo: Moddb.com I haven't tried it out, but it should also remove old ammo found in weapons.))
This mod is a quick fix for those who don't want old ammo in their game. Old ammo spawns as normal, but it's automatically turned into new ammo of the right sort when you add it to your inventory (this is why I call it a soft removal: there's old ammo in the game, but you don't have to worry about it).
The one case where it doesn't work automatically is if you picked up a weapon loaded with old ammo, then you must unload it and the ammo will become new as it enters your inventory.
If you unload a weapon in a dead stalker's inventory, the old ammo will not transform until you add it to your inventory. It's only your inventory that does the magic!
Please report any bugs! Compatibility with BaS is being tested (with both positive and negative results).
This mod works, but it isn't strictly what I wanted to do. In 1.5.1, damaged (_verybad) ammo was removed. I wanted to replicate this with old (_bad) ammo, but, even after editing the drop tables (not included here), old ammo still spawns in weapon magazines.
In practice, I have tried to make _G._NO_DAMAGED_AMMO = true also work for old (=_bad) ammo. I have annotated the files with my edits. If anyone wants to take a look and tell me what's wrong and why old ammo still spawns inside looted weapons, thank you a lot!
The file can also be viewed here item_weapon.script - Pastebin.com
I tried also editing itms_manager.script (not included, it didn't do anything), edits can be seen here itms_manager.script - Pastebin.com
the edits are marked with "edits for less items". Again, thanks to anyone who'd like to help!
The solution you've made it quite interesting. Sure beats the hell out of manually changing ammo drop rates yourself, at least.
You are a savior, man!
Great idea / work! I've never liked the "old" ammo system in Anomaly. Oddly enough, one thought I had was to rename it from "Old" to "Hand Made" - so it kind of makes more sense, even tho it's properties and usage would remain the same - and by extension I guess the logical thing then would be to make player manufactured ammo to have properties of "Hand Made" (Old) ammo too...
Nice idea, but it doesn't work for me. Nothing happens when I move old ammo from dead stalkers or stashes to my inventory. Old ammo remains old. I play with BaS and SortingPlus if does matter.
It doesn't work with BaS, I have tested it now. SortingPlus works fine, however.
Thank you for replying that promptly. Is there any chance to make the addon compatible with BaS?
I'm not sure, I'd have to understand what doesn't work. If I make it, I'll answer one of your comments and, depending on your settings, you'll get an email notification.
I'm using BaS and it works fine, idk what both of you are talking about, lol.
Well, that's surprising, although it's good to hear. What have you installed from BaS exactly?
Sorry for the late reply, but i didn't see the notfication. I use only BaS mod, not other BaS add-on or something (but i use about 70 other mods) and works perfectly, even with your other mod: less items mod.
Hey rethinking my previous comment about calling "Old" ammo "Handmade" ammo - and ideally even making player made ammo to have the properties of Old ammo - it may be better for gameplay balance to go the other way! - ie. yeah, rename Old ammo to Handmade, but edit the "Old" ammo configs to make it SUPERIOR to normal ammo!! Old ammo is actually fairly scarce in body loot etc. and currently is virtually useless both because its weaker and damages player weapons as well as only appearing in small numbers - so it would make more sense for it to actually be made valuable and worthwhile but it being slightly BETTER than normal ammo! Likewise making this "Handmade" ammo superior AND lending that property to ammo the player makes would add a really good extra dimension to the game. In vanilla Anomaly I just scrap old ammo and sell the parts - but if Old ammo became superior Handmade ammo I'd be actively collecting and hoarding it and using it carefully as well as possibly recycling Normal ammo to get more Handmade... I'm not sure how the player ammo making system works tho - ie. whether the specs of that ammo can be defined? Right now I'm going to go rename Old ammo to handmade and edit the ammo configs to make Old ammo more accurate and with slightly less air resistance in my game so I can start treating it differently in tactical terms.
Working old ammo into something new definitely sounds like an interesting idea. I personally was immediately reminded of Metro, where high-quality bullets are used as money but can also be shot in difficult fights (in which case they set the enemy on fire).
I don't really use crafting much, but there is a file called craft.ltx, for example there you have a line like:
x_ammo_9x18_fmj = 5, recipe_ammo_0, ammo_9x18_fmj_bad,2,prt_i_ammo,2
if you mode the _bad around and change it with
x_ammo_9x18_fmj_bad = 5, recipe_ammo_0, ammo_9x18_fmj,2,prt_i_ammo,2
you should be able to craft old ammo using normal ammo. Then the qualities of the ammo you produce are those of ammo_9x18_fmj_bad in weapon_ammo.ltx
I haven't actually tested it, but it should work.
Yeah the Metro system was exactly what made me think this way too :-) At this stage I've gone thru and made those additions to craft.ltx - making the Bad Ammo recipes use more Normal ammo than back the other (original) way - as well as tweaking the Bad ammo configs to improve performance and remove damaging effects on weapons of Bad ammo. Ideally I'd like to change the name to Handmade or even New, but haven't gone into whats involved there yet. THEN just yesterday I've discovered an already posted mod (Old Ammo Overhaul V1.2) that may do all of this INCLUDING name change and Traders buying / selling! - so I'll go thru it soon and just switch to tweaking that Mod if thats what it is.
Do you really think a random stalker can make ammo better than an entire factory? That just doesn't make sense. Although is a pretty interesting gameplay concept.
Awesome addon! Thanks
Works great, including fact that i have almost 100 mods/tweaks)
Finally, a mod that i have looking for years.
Another mod that removes old ammo: Moddb.com I haven't tried it out, but it should also remove old ammo found in weapons. It is slightly more convenient than this one, in that you won't have to unload your weapons.
No way. Not working.
even if I disable it in the mcm menu, old cartridges also appear in corpses.
also, if I choose to spawn cartridges on 10 corpses instead of 1, the cartridges will spawn only for the second weapon, in general, nonsense and not an addon.
Must have addon. I don't understand why the hell here's old ammo, like in some kind of post apocalypse looong time ago...
I am using this mod on EFP3.0:SE (Sidorovich Edition), and can confirm that it is working as advertised for me with no issues so far. I can see the ammo convert from old to regular right in the inventory window. Thank you for this, I hate old ammo
Thank God! It's so tedious and annoying how all NPC's drop nothing but old ammo. So unrealistic.
Very good mod
BTW it doesnt change old vog and m203 ammo (grenade launcher ammo)
Would like to say thank you for this if you are still here on this. If possible maybe one day a fix for grenade launcher ammo?
this mod works in 1.5.2?
