A brief overview of current progress along with responses to frequently asked questions

House Bracken, House Glover, and House Stark face off in the forest.

After recently completing work on cavalry and infantry units of House Bracken (the Riverlands), I decided to post a brief status update on current progress as well as responses to frequently asked questions both here and in the TWC forums.

NEW CONTENT

The latest addition to Seven Kingdoms, House Bracken (see teaser screenshot above) is a vassal house that holds fealty to House Tully of Riverrun. Their lands are in the heart of the Riverlands, located along the banks of the Red Fork of the Trident. Their seat is known as Stone Hedge, headed by Jonos Bracken, and they carry a red stallion sigil on a gold field into battle.

The Brackens hold an ancient grudge against their neighbors, the Blackwoods of Raventree Hall. The two houses, which hold the blood of the First Men in their veins and merged with the invading Andals rather than being completely conquered by them, competed for the throne of the Riverlands when it was an independent kingdom. The enmity and competition continues to this day and was increased when House Bracken converted to the Faith of the Seven.

House Bracken infantry are protected by padded gambeson tunics, decorative leather vests, and distinctive shields emblazoned with the Bracken sigil. Heavy units also wear round bowl helmets (something very difficult to spot in the TV show!) while archers and light infantry prefer leather coifs and hoods.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Why don't you have House X, or House Y, or House Z?
A: This is a work in progress and only a small fraction of Houses planned for the mod are currently complete. Seven Kingdoms will feature all major houses of Westeros as depicted in the TV series. Obscure mentions of minor Houses from the books are a low priority and likely won't be considered until those familiar to viewers are complete.

Q: I can't model, texture, animate, or edit databases. Can I help you?
A: This is a solo project without the support of a large modding team (or small one, for that matter). While several prominent developers in the Attila community have been kind enough to lend assistance, unless you can provide concrete assets for the mod (primarily models, desperately needed!) I don't require any help at the moment.

Q: Why don't you have House X, or House Y, or House Z? The Dothraki and White Walkers are in the show!
A: Again, this is a work in progress and only a small portion are finished. It's too early to tell what accessory armies and factions (e.g. those beyond the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros) will be included at a later date.

Q: How many Houses are currently in-game?
A: House Stark, House Bolton, House Glover, House Karstark, House Mormont, House Lannister, House Tully, and as of today, House Bracken. Next in line are House Frey and House Blackwood of the Riverlands.

Q: Why doesn't each House have it's own faction?
A: Battles in Game of Thrones typically involve multiple Houses fighting side-by-side against each other. Creating general factions based on Kingdom allows House Stark to fight alongside House Hornwood or House Mormont, for example.

Q: When will the mod be released?
A: Like most developers say, when it's ready to be released. I'll consider a public alpha when there's enough content for people to not ask my why House X, House Y, and House Z aren't featured yet (sorry, I get bombarded with PMs about this!)

Q: Will you create a campaign mode?
A: No. Rotating a map of Europe sideways doesn't do the genre justice and I'm unwilling to deviate from kosher aesthetics for a feature best offered by games like Crusader Kings II. With that being said, I'm glad to reconsider if it becomes possible to create custom campaign maps in the future.

That's it for now - stay tuned for more updates in the near future!
