Description
The Springfield Model 1861 was the most common infantry rifle during the American Civil War. It remained in service after the wars end in 1865, but was supplanted by early trapdoor Springfields and eventually the model 1873. The rifle was imported into Japan in the Bakumatsu period by the United States and was common alongside the Enfield and Snider in the hands of pro Imperial troops such as those of the Tosa Domain.
