Rise of the Reds – or ROTR for short – improves upon the C&C Generals formula while also adding its own distinct elements to it. Most notably, the mod adds two completely new factions, the tank-heavy Russian Federation and the defence-oriented European Continental Alliance. In addition, the three original factions China, USA and GLA have been greatly expanded and redesigned in a variety of ways, with several new units, buildings, powers and abilities to explore and combine in your in-game tactics.
The Paladin Tank project was considered a complete success by the US military. The Paladin was first introduced when point laser defences were considered outlandish by many. At the time, the Paladin was only inferior to the Overlord. Though with the introduction of the Sentinel the world has now a new king of tanks, the Paladin still performs remarkably. US armour may lack in brute strength when compared to Russian and Chinese armour; however, what they lack in brute strength they make up for with technology and ingenuity.
Nice work
lol Palabrams :P
I like what i see. Those broken squares in front certainly remind everybody of Abrams. But the model is mindblowing, even it is loosely based of Abrams sort to speak.
The broken squares are identifier panels introduced in the Gulf Wars to reduce friendly fire incidents after several casualties, so while they're most typically associated with the Abrams (and it is certainly where the inspiration originated) it's fairly natural to put them on the new USA heavy tank as well. There simply wasn't space on the Crusader.
i like new laser defenses system on this paladin!
nice looking upgrade
look better than the old one of course!! Great!
Time to send the old one to the scrap yard cant wait to use this!
Wow.. this owned zeke's one... but ZEKE FTW :D
SWR did not make this unit in response to the one from Generation X; it was made some time ago, and has been in the internal betas for a while now. That they were posted in reasonable time proximity to one another was entirely and completely coincidental.
Nice, but i prefer the genX one. This is way to close to the initial concept, and still looks bad compaired to the new crusader. I would have expected something a bit heavy in design and more high tech. This is the same old blocky design. Sorry ...
You're perfectly welcome to your opinion of course, but it wasn't SWR's goal to reimagine the unit, rather simply keep as much the original design as possible while bringing it up to the visual quality of the rest of the mod. It's not supposed to be a different vehicle, and the fact that it works exactly the same in-game as before supports this, just a better-looking version of the old one.
Well with the new crusader i was really hopping for something alot different. As a paladin improvement it looks great, but ... i simply was expecting something to look at least as new as the crusader mk2. Come to think about it i was expecting a new design :) .
is it having night lights? I see there is lamp on the front side
Yes, the headlights at the front work just fine. As a general rule, if a vehicle has headlights, it'll emit light on dark maps - it's one of the detail things that SWR takes seriously.
any changes?
Stats-wise, no, none.
AWESOME!!! this paladin is in a new patch? (maybe the 1.3?)
It'll be in the new release version, 1.5, to come out shortly. More will be explained in the news post, which is currently waiting for approval from ModDB.
and when we can download the 1.5 verion?
When it's done. SWR does not give release dates, ever, and there are very good reasons for this.
this is strange because the crusader is more advanced than the paladin i mean the crusader can float or does this unit have something up its sleeve still left to show. And also what do you mean waiting approval do they guys who run here have to give permission for things to be posted or can you post things 247 if you catch my drift.
When you consider that the Paladin was supposed to be 'experimental' at the time of Zero Hour, it's not really that odd. The Crusader's 'old' design has now been replaced, but the Paladin, which was newer to begin with, has not. Making it hover would be to make a USA player too powerful; being able to float an entire amphibious armoured squadron into a base may be a little much, particularly one that can protect itself from rockets and stand up easily with any MBT opponents can put up.
the update could of atleast shown a new unit
just be happy u got an update and dont be selfish the team work hard at no cost to please us so an attempt to bully SWR into showing a new unit is futile please show some more respect.
I Agree with Jester_5873!
and if u read the update. u would see (quote) "we'd like to continue with this new series of updates until 1.5." so im sure there will be new units to show and even if there isnt. im happy with just updated units (fits more with the timeline)
By introducing re-made units the team showcases the improved visual quality of the update. As the update includes relatively few new additions, instead being a 'refining' release, it would be inappropriate to show the new content the team has waiting in the wings at this time.
well see i have not played zero hour in ages and i pretty much forgot what the units look like so showing skins don't make me jump up and down if you know what i mean... lolz and Jester_5873 i was not bullying swr i was just saying that i would like to see some new units so shushie
Believe me when I say they didn't look as good as that. It's much more than a skin tweak; the brushed-up model showcases the majority of the improvements, actually.
Will the Overlord recieve a redesign too?
Not a redesign, no. As for an enhancement, wait and see...
I think its funny how in real life, the Crusader and the Paladin are self propelled artillery, while in vGenerals and vZero Hour they are tanks
True, though as Rise of the Reds is an enhancement and not a conversion it uses the names from the original game for continuity.
lol this version is on the cover of the command and conquer generals deluxe edition case, minus the soldier firing the .50
Along with the original concept art, that's likely where some of the inspiration for the tweaks came from.
I agree this is better than the original, however, it's the hover Crusader that I'm waiting for.
I'm glad that the team didn't radically change the paladin as it is one of the best tanks in this mod and also in vanilla generals (zh). It is a decent mid-heavy tank which excels in spearheading and is quite effective against infantry due to its pdl (not common for mbts) and also encompasses both traits of us stratagy in the mod: it uses both high technology in its pdl and is old enough to be counted as a battle hardened combat unit. That's just my opinion and everybody is entitaled to their own opinion. :)
Yes, they're definitely very different in use to the game's other heavy tanks. The trouble arises from them being as strong as they are in an army that operates on the principle of being more than the sum of its parts, and Paladin spamming (particularly with a couple of Avengers thrown in for good measure) was pretty much a foolproof tactic in the early betas. They required some hard nerfing indeed to get to where they are now.
nice, but i rather have an M1A2 Abrams, best damn tank on earth, 120mm gun, 3 machin guns, oorah!! th tanks in this game are lacking in my opinion. most dont have anti infantry machin guns...i hate that. a tank is not only a tank armor weapon, its a anti infantry weapon to, its suppose to strike fear into the foot soldier, and mow them down with heavy cannon and gun fire.
You have obviously never heard of balance or brains, allow me to enlighten you.
#1 Balance is making the game fair so that two playeers ca play the game and have the result decided by their skill not by their chosen factions. Therefore tanks that could kill tanks and their principle enemies (AT infantry, heli gunships) would be overpowered. The Battlemaster has an MG in ROTR, it does relatively little damage and strikes me as being a visual change rather than the death spewing monster you attempt to describe above. Plus by 2030 the abrams will be coming up for its 40th birthday, time to leavee to the great tank range in the sky...
Also Challenger 2, Leopard 2, mile high stack of T80s>Abrams.
#2 A brain is a fleshy organ inside the skull that does thinking. I suggest you go and get one, if yours wasn't taken away by social services on the grounds of neglect.
owned...
actually Challenger 2 = Leopard 2 = Abrams > mile high stack of T80s
Most modern western MTBs are so similar in terms of combat effectiveness it that the only thing deciding which one wins is training and combat experience, so it pretty much leaves the M1A2 and the Challenger 2 on top.
do this makes the Paladin shoot its laser faster than the old ones?
im not saying the machine guns have to be powerful, like 3 shot kill, but seriously, the tanks should have MG's, you could make then weak, or inaccurate to compensate jackass.
paladin mobile artillery unit..... not this... this is the paladin tank!! nice model! i like it
*lol* Mobile Security camera on top checking for aircraft!
generals has it wrong the paladin is actually an artillary piece not a tank
Camera Paladin!
PWnladin
the chassis its still a box with treads
