I assume in evenly matched spetsnaz vs honor guard fight, the result will depend on environment, with open areas benefitting the guard with melee charges and longer ranges, whereas any blocking of immediate passage while limiting range will give spetsnaz an advantage? Especially considering spetsnaz grenades allow firing over buildings?

Well, first of all, the Spetsnaz had E-111 overload ability instead of grenades even before they appeared in the mod. Yes, i remember that I showed grenades once in the old (very old!) video, but that was before I fully developed the concept of "elite infantry". The grenades have been replaced (along with the ability to quickly clear buildings) from that moment.

Undoubtedly, the evironment strongly affects the fighting qualities of both the Spetsnaz and the Honor Guard. You are right, various obstacles may prevent the Honor Guard from using the sword against Spetsnaz, or force him to go around, wasting time (possibly under enemy fire). Take into account the infantry cover taking system, which is currently undergoing tests. In the battle between two infantry units, the player himself can play a large role, giving orders competently.

But in general, Honor Guards are more balanced for the targets of medium strength (duels), while Spetsnaz are meant to deal with a large numbers of weak targets.
