After a few years of 'on and off' working on the mod, which is supposed to be my take on what Hexen 2 should have looked like, I decided to release it once it is done. The progress was very slow at the beginning, however, releasing Trenchbroom map editor together with tools and ports, which made the mapping less painful, speeded up the process. The name is just a placeholder. No story, yet. The mod tries to be more like the first Hexen - gameplay wise - more monsters, more open spaces with large battles, funnier level design, while keeping the puzzles of the second.
First of all, sorry for pushing the release constantly, but Hexen II proves to be buggier with every single test and every single entity used in the game and if one needs to spend a week to figure out functionality that is here as long as FPS gaming itself, it can become rather frustrating. I prefer to take my time and release something that is in a good shape rather than updating and keep on breaking additional things. Hopefully in a month it can be released with the second hub coming within this year as well. With every fix some new stuff is always introduced though, so the waiting is not in vain :)
So the Hub 1 is more or less ready. These last few weeks I was trying to address some remaining bugs, but somewhat unsuccessfully. If anyone with some...
The first HUB containing first 7 maps/levels is being tested this month. If not issues are present, I hope to release it by the end of this month.
Could this possibly have a map built in I played Hexen ii and got lost numerous times just trying to figure out where to go and what to do a map would have been much more helpful. I almost put this game down after beating it with the necromancer for the first time then heard about mods. But I hadn’t picked it back up since there was no map.
I discussed this with other modders, maps would be really helpful addition, but I haven't came up with any solution, yet. While there is level or two that would certainly require map, others are...let's say less mazzy than vanilla game. Vanilla Hexen 2 had too many same-looking brown/grey corridors, one had hard time distinguish what level they are in as they all looked the same. That is something I tried to improve. Less corridors and more distinct design in every level. Hopefully :)
Glad to hear the demo is on its way :)
Totally hyped for the upcoming demo!
I've been looking for some good mods for this game recently(and have not been too impressed so far), but this is looking really good! I'm eager to try out the first HUB, and hopefully the second.
so what's up with this mod, still releasing it?
Sure, see my reply below.
stoked!!
it's definitely on my list of hopeful titles like witchfire and tech-com 2029
So, two years later... Wondering if this will ever be released?
Don't worry, it will. Can't say if in the same scope as intended, but the first HUB is mostly done, only waiting for items/monsters placement. The second HUB is missing only 1 map to be complete as well.
