The game takes place in the eve of the Seven Hour War. Fighting against blood shedding synths and frightening aliens, Adrian Shephard has to struggle his way with his fellow comrades from the Phoenix Command, with the main objective of stopping the construction of a Combine Citadel. In his journey he will find what has happened to the world, moments before the Seven Hour War.

looks like the Hgrunt (Human Grunt, Marine, Soldier) from HL1 :D "if you check on HD Version"
but i think they look alike ^^ (but not 100%, its like 30-45%)
Old.ambientimpact.com
they obviously look alike. the helmet is a 1-1 remodel of the original helmet and parts of his armor use remaining pieces from the HECU troops.
its ment to be. this is based off of the hl1 expansion pack
Looks nice and detailed. Don't know about the bolts though.
the bolts were in the original model. we can probably make them more subtle by making them the same color as the kevlar.
I think it makes it stand out feeling more detailed, keep 'em the way they are.
No, you have to go the way they did with Batman on this one; bolt nipples.
You sir, are a genius.
OOOOO. Nice!
I love it except for the actual helmet
The helmet is basically the PASGT M88 that the modern US military uses just with out the camo canvas covering. Its perfectly fine & realistic too.
its not that its not realistic, its just that it looks kinda weird, but if its what the devs want its what its gonna be and I cant change that. Still looks amazing though.
It looks abit odd since normally the PASGT helmets are covered in a camo. canvas material while this one is just the bare composite polymer shell.
The devs said they might included various versions of the helmet with camo. on other future Marine NPCs.
The marines and the army doesen't use the PASGT helmet anymore the usmc uses the LWH helmet and the army uses the MICH 2001
yea these guys arnt marines they are Phoenix marines AKA civis and X military militia group. Their gear is based off of what ever they can scavenge and Jerry rig them selves.
unless the gas mask is made of play doh, he's not going to be able to move his head at all.
I Suppose the neck of it could be rubber, but then again i dont see any seams to indicate that
And about his neck, they can make an armour plates from torso going up arround neсk to cover it, so they can make gasmask ending down his face,
after this he can turn his head.
Much better, I like!
Wow, looks awsome! I think it was just that angle that made the mask not look good to me.
Gasmasks that look exactly like that exist and work rather well, they're just made out of soft stuff so they can bend when somebody turns their head. It still does look rather goofy though.
The gas mask's high poly was created using the original's geometry, with the textures applied so it would be 1-1 for sure. Can't please everyone, but if a near duplicate of the original isn't good enough, then there isn't much I can do.
basically what DOG-GY said. we'll do a cut for the neck since there will be head variations for the marines but we won't change the gas mask.
Well for the other future variants of the Marines IE the ones with out helmets can use the M40 protective mask (hood is optional) for variations sake. The Phoenix Marines would also very likely reuse old US military equipment when possible. As the saying goes if it aint broken don't try to fix it or replace it.

Here is the new version made specifically for US Marines.

The gas mask shown here is perfectly fine as it looks to be a modified older M40 mask with a rubber like full head mask added to improve its protection. Also since it is made of rubber it would be very flexible so ppl should stop say he wont be able to turn his head >> the only real down side to this mask if its made of rubber is that it would get awfully hot wearing one but hey that's better than breathing in toxic air and or chemicals.
Maybe you could have two different gasmask models. One like you have now, and one more like the one in black mesa source.
It's fantastic. Excellent work guys, it looks bot realistic but also has that slightly styled look to it that is important for video games.
Very very well made & much improved over the older versions.
I like the studs & new backback as they look to be very modular. The pack it self can be attached & held by any of those studs making a very simple to make 1 size fits all pack that can be adjusted for just about any user. This little detail in of it self is brilliant.
The helmets shape is also greatly improved & looks more like a recycled PASGT M88 helmet which is again very realistic. My only issue with it is that they are usually covered with a camo canvas like material so thus Id like to see it with a camo texture matching the home made urban camo on the rest of the marine.
The older original MARPAT or older style camo patterns may also be used to emphasize that the helmets are recycled.

The backpacks & ammo packs textures can also be made a little more dirtier for a used and worn look. They are too clean as they are now almost like they are brand new.
Other than that its pretty much perfect. I will now be patiently waiting to see the other Marine variants :)
And as always keep up the brilliant work gents.
The old HECU models did have the camo canvas actually, but after looking at some concept art of ours, I decided I'd go for the current look (just as a matter of preference artistically).
Maybe it'll come back as a variation in the future, but nothing concrete for now.
Thanks for the crit!
i like the desciption box and the changelog
I love this update. :D
he must be more manly
Its awesome i cant wait to see him in action :D
Looks really good! Good work.
awesome
honestly, i've liked every model shown of this character, but hey I'm glad you guys listen to the majority.
Something is definitely off about the scale or general... well, bulk of the model. Maybe the perspective? Still, I got the feeling his head and/or torso are a bit too... puffy...
Hes wearing a heavy set of custom power armor n regular kevlar so yea naturally he is a bit bulky.
Looks great, but his shoulders are very broad. Maybe it's just the t-pose and the angle.
it's actually the backpack that makes his shoulders look big. same thing happened on the OF1 soldiers except they looked even bigger.
Again its the armor, gear, equipment, & clothing all layered on there that gives him such a bulky appearance. Look at any modern soldier, CT, Police, & or Riot Police in full kevlar & you will see how it makes them generally look bigger than they really are.
Dude that's better than the other versions, the details are great, now for it to be perfect (perfect for me I mean), just make the arms and the "tacticool" backpack a bit more dirty .
Looks Great!!
Old one was better.
me likey :) not sure about the bolts though (kinda wierd and goth not that theres anything wrong with goths but thats not really the look you want) and the radio could do with a little work eg making it a bit bulkier and moving it up the body a bit
Looks great!
It's really nice work! But I miss the rolled up sleeves a bit.
I agree. The long sleeves are kind of strange looking, especially for not taking place in winter. The shorter sleeves make much more sense for Shephard.
The model is fine, but the colours put me off. It's very different from the Half-Life 1 marines color scheme, which is a shame, since it was so awesome and unique.

Note that this is just a regular Phoenix Marine NOT a HECU Marine. Only Shepard & other specific characters who were originally part of the HECU may retain their old equipment & camo as no one else but them had access to it. It was state of the art tech. for them and as such only special ops like the HECU & Black Ops had powered combat vest armor.
The Phoenix Marines are an improvised military unit comprised of surviving military & other combat experienced personnel so thus their equipment would be primarily a mix of old military equipment along with their own locally produced equipment. They do have some heavy influence from the HECU based on their scratch built PCV armor so that implies that their core leadership is comprised of original HECU members as they would be the ones with the most experience dealing with the new alien threats.
Ah, I see. Sounds good.
