after a long session of criticism we reworked it, it's still heavily wip since we remade 60% of the original model.

thank DOG-GY for this, he's been an amazing member. we're still going to add the pistol holster and another one for the knife, make his bag saggier, blablablabla. a lot of stuff. just wait for the final result, wanted to show you guys this since we actually listen to fan criticism.

oh yeah and before anyone complains about the size of the head it's actually the right size. the proportions are all right, the only difference between him and the OF1 dudes is that the OF1 dudes' armors made their shoulders huge, which was the main reason their helmets looked alright. take a better look at how big their heads were before you complain about that.

sorry to stack on the criticism, but the clothing looks unnatural and the knee pads are too small to do any good

I see what you meant about some people saying the heads to big, the OF1's soldiers had huge armor so their helmet seemed to fit, while this WIP soldier looks like he has a huge head because of his not so huge vest and uniform.
Anyway keep up the good work! Cant wait to see him in finished format as well as the rest of the game

while on the other hand, i have to thank you guys for the criticism. it's not like it's a bad thing, it just delayed us a bit. dog-gy worked the last week on this while he had other assignments to do. he's more relaxed workwise now but still, he wasn't expecting such a huge impact on his other model, and neither was the rest of the team. but yeah, thank you all.

Not digging it. The mask looks awkward. I'd recommend referencing a real gas mask more closely.

It's based on real gas mask references and every single one of the old versions. I also researched extensively on gas mask functionality and in that it mirrors reality. The primary goal is to reinvent the old, not to ditch it entirely for some new concept.

That being said, thanks for the response.

Not bad so far not bad at all. So will the home made urban looking camo be the norm or will the other Phoenix marines have assorted x military & civilian camo?

That helmet is also well ... meh. I would prefer to see the Army, National Guard & USMC M88 PASGT combat helmet as it would be the most common. It would be recommended that it also have the AN/PVS-7D generation 3 U.S. military night vision Goggle attached seeing as only the HECU Marines gas masks had built in night vision. So thus the gas mask goggle lenses should be clear or tinted dark black if they have anti flash bang lenses.

The backpack from this angle looks splendid. It could easily pass for x military or civilian sporting/hunting gear.

The body armor intrigues me the most. It bares no resemblance to any know military, law enforcement, & or civilian body armor currently in use here in the US. This leads me to believe that its some sort of Phoenix produced variant of the old HECU Power Combat Vest? Fairly interesting to know that they would have the capability to mass produce one of the (even if the Phoenix vest is probably sub standard when compared to the PCV) most advanced human armor vests of its time originally only being used by the USMC spec. ops. units like the HECU.

If its not powered armor Id have to assume that its some sort of home made composite kevlar, nylon, & ballistic steel plates which would be much simpler & easier to mass produce than powered armor.

The ammo pouches are a nice touch as well but im not really sure as to what kind of ammo they are supposed to carry. Look like pistol mag pouches to me.

old ALICE m16 mag pouches are still popular in the civilian market.

It's redesigned HECU armor. Seeing as their armor was never very realistic in the first place, It wouldn't be sensible to capture a real soldier's look instead of their own.

Not everything has to be designed to the standards of a gun/military nut, especially when it's in the future. That's like asking Mass Effect to replace their weapons with our generation of hardware: it just makes no ******' sense.

Thanks for the comments, I can't be bothered with texture yet because this model doesn't even have a low poly yet.

Well interesting to see that the Phoenix marines have the tech & capacity to manufacture HECU armor thus hinting at how extensive their organization is which is a good thing. Also power armor isn't really impossible even by today's standards. Experiments are already underway in university's like MIT for example to envelop an object in a dense field of cold plasma & thus is very much a possibility. Since the PCV dosent have any such visible field it is logical to assume that the suit is a composite type of material that uses an electrical charge to absorb & strengthening the point of projectile impact. The armor most likely can also regenerate any damaged components similar to how memory metals molecular structure can realign it self with either a electrical charge or contact with hot or cold water.

Also I compare the Phoenix Marines to regular real world tech. since the are stated to be a militia like network which would usually result in rag tag equipment.

Thanks to this model I can now see how organized this group is & trust me that is a very very good & original idea since in most other post apocalyptic games resistance & militia are often portrayed as down right pathetic.

The other reason why I compare many things from the HL universe to the real world is that Valve placed the events of HL1 right around the late 90s to early 2001. Thus with the 7 hour war being after HL1 its in roughly the same time frame that we are in (2000-2010). & The amazing tech shown in Black Mesa & by the HECU were limited to only them since it is next gen tech that was being developed. HECU only had power armor since they were a special operations unit & naturally Spec. Ops always get the newest & best equipment. Same thing goes for G-man's (note: it's assumed) Black Ops.

Just a little insight into how I see it from my own logic & research.

Nice. That's quite the improvement. My only complaint about headsize would be his neck, but I am aware that a full head gas/hazard mask would actually be that thick around the neck to allow for comfortable use.

Can't wait to see the final version.

The gasmask looks really jerky, play around a bit with the shape until it looks good. And don't reply with that "I followed real life references" when 2 minutes later, someone writes a comment about "How it's a game" and it doesn't matter.

It seems you -actually- improved a bit.

Also, the legs appear a bit long, but it might be the angle.

Rubber doesn't have uniform flexibility. It can be highly flexible and highly rigid. The neck area in real life would be flexible rubber and the head part would be the same with a material inside the mask to reinforce it.

i've been working on this for a few years, i know how it's like, and i'm used to it. however when i actually think about it i get amazed at how if you give your fans what they want, they'll want more, like spoiled children. we're working as hard as possible to please most of our community, and constantly changing our stuff based on fan criticism, but wow, it's the second time we change the marine and there are still people saying "it's horrible". we'll stick to this design, since it has so far pleased most of you.

Well, it is a good model, and of course, it will never please every body... But I the eye visor should be dark... With the brilliance effect of left for dead 2 zombies... red tinted... would look creeper in dark areas (and red is still a little bit less noticeable by human eyes then green...)

However, it's pretty awsome how it is... once the finishing touchs will be done, it will be perfect... You really don't need to add stuff.
