I can't really put this one ingame, it's too high poly. I mean Source could probably handle a 600,000 poly model but I don't think it'd be good to test it.
I'm going to bake this as a normal map onto a low poly model, which I'm working on now.
I'd suggest merging Eli Vance and Eli Maxwell anyway like Valve did but make it so that It's still Eli Vance, but an inventor or captain? Or make it so It's Eli Vance and Mr. Maxwell instead. Or just keep it how it is. Either way, This alpha will make 10x less sense once Half-Life 3 is released and yes I know you aren't aiming to tie it into the existing storyline but it'd be cool if someone did do that. Maybe after the alpha/beta is completely playable, characters are refined and gameplay and sound AND story completely sealed and secure, and finished.
2 things one its not an MP7A1 its the old original MP7 model & 2 will it have a realistic ammo count? The mag shown here is the 20 round version but they did also come with longer curved 40 round mags. & the Combine make their own 45 round straight mags.
Shrug. I got the MP7A1 mixed up with the original MP7.
Anyway, it's a model, not a skin.
And that "straight mag" is an Uzi magazine. I have no idea what the **** is going on in those last few pics. It looks like someone took five different guns and slapped them together.
yea they were a custom SMG1 skins set off of FPSbanana with the different attachments optional. Their longer mag model however fits perfectly in the HL universe since its simple & looks easy to mass produce IE something the Combine would do if they were making their own versions.
Yea it was since the Valve team was rushed to finish so they reused their old MP7 beta model n just edited it abit. Valve always has a bad habit of doing things like that since they primarily focus on creating game with capabilities beyond that of what the average computers can do at the time of the games release.
For example HL1 looked like **** even for 1998 standards but looking at it now with all the custom mods & models for n you can see the full capabilities of the old gold source engine.
Same thing goes for HL2 which is why Fakefactory made his cinematic mod which pretty much enhances everything in the HL2 game & its episodes to their full & stunning potential.
If Valve wanted to HL2 would have had twice the con tent seen in the retail with better quality & more realism to make a more believable atmosphere like they did with the HD upgrade to HL1. They haven't done it with HL2 since they learned that the modding community would step in & put their own spin on it which we have done in many ways.
They didn't reuse the model in any form. They just simply modeled the MP7 and never bothered to give it an actual 45 round magazine for aesthetic reasons.
Nice work... should add the detail nicely to the bake for the low poly, though Source does not do such a good job with the normal maps when it comes to rounding edges etc.
Well I do have concept art for a realistic & plausible Combine made MP7 variants that can. I'm gona post the concept art as soon as im finished with it but yea. I'm planing to make a skin of it for the retail HL2 smg1 once I get the hang of XSI.
Awesum
Very detailed, can't wait to fill up some combine with lead!
Mmm Mmm... xD
(buried)
plastic-y.
Not textured.
Ironically, I don't want you to do anything to this, not even texture it. I love it the way it is. It gives it a certain very likable style.
So, very good job. It makes me want to redo my own mp7.
true
Would 99% agree it nearly doesnt need any more work to look fresh off the production line!

I think they mean the final texture should look something like this instead of all black and scratched up. I tend to agree, it looks great like this.
besides in an apocolyptic post-war environment it looks too new, like it's has been polished every day
heh. the gun's plastic.
Actually, many submachine guns are ` or more composite (plastic) material to cut down on weight. This gives off a FN P90 vibe.
That looks epic! But, not to sound picky but, why not have a serial number on it? Just to add the realism of it.
It would be kind of asinine to model the serial number on.
That is true, sorry about that.
No big.

Very Very good work Mugofdoom I really like it (=
Can't wait to see this sexy beast textured :D

Sorry if im nit picky about details :P just the way I am.
You are very similar to me, always hope gun in video game can be more realistic.

Yeah except it's an Uzi mag lol. The rounds wouldn't even fit.
yea but the concept still stands. A simple straight stamped metal magazine would be the simplest one for the Combine to mass produce.
Dude that thing is amazing.
amazing work, as always
to Phenixtri, In hl2, the smg had a tiny (20 round looking) mag, but had 45 rounds anyways.

Yea dude the beta MP7 to me looks similar to the retail one just with aesthetic changes to the model it self. But hey who knows maybe you are right.
It's the same gun, but the model is entirely different.
Oh yes and I forgot to mention. Brilliant job on that EOTECH 552 sight its pretty much perfect.
Thanks bro. It's meant to be one of the smaller variants. I'm not sure the exact model name but it's basically a shortened 552.
The sight on this model does look excessively large.
It is to scale.
I meant that it's ugly & that a smaller sight would be less so.
That is absolutely gorgeous! HUGE improvement over the basic hl2 smg. But that looks like a 20 round mag to me.
Nice work... should add the detail nicely to the bake for the low poly, though Source does not do such a good job with the normal maps when it comes to rounding edges etc.
Looks cool!
That's just..
stunning
yea ? Doest it still shoots 20mm grenades ? YES?
OH well...
Nope. That's the OICW now.

You could just make an animation where he throws the grenade.
that's unoriginal and over used. :/
Looks awesome!
Can't wait to shoot Combines!
Unbelievably detailed for a non-textured model, to say the least.
The viewmodel looks - very - amazing.
Godly!
