Men of War is probably the best ww2 strategy game on the market, but it lacks most of all one thing: a skirmish mode where you can have huge battles against an AI player. It is a shame that you have so many units available that you can rarely use in the campaigns. Battlefield mode is a unique skirmish mode, more advanced than those you can find in Assault Squad, whose objectives are the following: • Create a challenging single player skirmish with a great variety of battles. • Build a sandbox to allow inexperienced players to set up their own scenario quickly given a prebuilt map.

Post news Report RSS Final Idea for the Battlefield mode and timetable

First of all, sorry if I haven't updated the mod page much in the last months but I was very busy with the university and another game project. I will start working on the Japanese Empire very soon but I wanted to share with you the final concept of the Battlefield mode. Thanks for your invaluable support. I will also provide an approximate timetable for my work (but it might change due to real life commitments).

The Battlefield Mode will include 6 factions in the final release, that will be Germany, United Stated of America, Commonwealth, Empire of Japan, Soviet Union and Italy and axis countries. The general concepts of the last two factions are the following:

SOVIET UNION:
This faction will be rcreating the atmosphere of the Eastern Front, that is extreme Urban Warfare with conscripts in large cities (such as Stalingrad) and mass tank divisions and equipment. The Soviet Union will be able to deploy cheap squads and vehicles against a higher deploy time (the Red Army had a very slow mobilization). Besides the Soviet Union will be able to deploy only basic tanks and units but to deploy the more advanced one they must activate the modernization campaign. For example the T-34/76 will always be available but if you want the more powerful T-34/85 you must activate the tank modernization campaign, which will unlock it. The modernization campaign remains active for a certain amount of time, after that it must be activated agains at addtional costs. The same happens with infantry: basic infantry will be always available (such as Conscripts and Infantry Squads), but more advanced units such as Red Guards and Assault Guards will be available only with the infantry modernization campaign.

ITALY AND AXIS COUNTRIES:
Italy will be the main faction while the other countries (Romania and Hungary) will be available in Support Commands. Since Italy had a out-of-date army, it often received vehicles and help from Germany, so for example the M13/40 tank can be replaced by a reinforcing Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf. J/1 tank activating Tank Foreing Aid ability. Another feature of Italian army (and also Romania and Hungary) is Morale. Morale will enhance your troops in different ways, for example Infantry Morale will boost your infantry health, while Tank Morale or Artillery Morale will allow you to replace for free lost units. Besides, the Afrika Korps will be included in this faction as Support Command since it fought alongisde Italy in North Africa.
