Men of War is probably the best ww2 strategy game on the market, but it lacks most of all one thing: a skirmish mode where you can have huge battles against an AI player. It is a shame that you have so many units available that you can rarely use in the campaigns. Battlefield mode is a unique skirmish mode, more advanced than those you can find in Assault Squad, whose objectives are the following: • Create a challenging single player skirmish with a great variety of battles. • Build a sandbox to allow inexperienced players to set up their own scenario quickly given a prebuilt map.

Hi

I cannot start to play the latest version.
I can download it then extract it to Mods folder.
I go to options then apply the mod.
The opening map only shows opposing forces.

Can you explain what I have done wrong.

Did you patch the game to version 1.17.5?
Also do you have Men of War or Assault Squad? Because this mod is not compatible with AS yet.
A screenshot would aslo be helpful to identify the problem.

Update.

I have friendly and opposing forces. I placed the Global war Application in mods and started the Global war mod again.

I cannot follow how I unlock all the Battlefield maps.
I only have the one map called Bazerville.

You have to run the executable file and extract it in the Mods folder of Men of War when prompted by the installer.

After that you should have something like
your_men_of_war_folder/Mods/Global War Release

where your_men_of_war_folder is the folder where you installed Men of War.

Inside Global War Release there is a file called game_progress.set, that's the file you use to unlock all the maps.

Now follow the following steps:

1. Navigate to Documents/MyGames/men of war folder/profiles/your_profile
2. IMPORTANT!!! Back up your game_progress.set file, otherwise you will lose any other progress with other campaigns/mods.
3. Overwrite the game_progress.set file with the one provided with Global War (you can find it inside the mod folder).
4. Profit.

My progress so far is this.

I run the application Global War Release.

I go to Windows Explorer to find the correct path to Men of War Mods.
I then start the process to extract the application into the Mods folder.I am careful to find the correct path to the mods folder using the browse option.
However the browse option shows my previous attempt at extracting the Release mode with a small orange padlock next to 7z Global_War_- _ Release _ 1.0.exe
I get stuck because I cannot find what is inside the 7z.......... application.
I hope this helps you help me.

I would enjoy the mode even more when I am able to get at the game_progress.set file which is inside the 7z............. folder.

Finally where is stage 4 named Profit?

Aynway, I don't understand what the problem is. When you run the self extracting archive you should get a folder, not a 7z compressed folder. I mean, it's like a normal setup, it extracts the compressed archive at the specified folder. From that point you should be able to view it as a windows folder.

Could you post a screenshot of what you are doing?

Sorry maybe I understood what your problem is, are you RUNNING the executable file or are you using 7zip to EXTRACT it? Because you have to run it not extracting the archive with 7zip. You don't need 7zip at all to extract the mod.

Thank you very much for your guidance.

I now have the Release mod as a folder within 'Mods' without using 7zip.

Moving onto unlocking of the Battlefield single missions.

I can see them within 'game progress set'.

In order to safely overwrite the contents of same named file Men of War/profiles/ player do I simply drag & drop the file ( Men of War/profiles/player) into say a new file I can create in Desktop then drag & drop Battlefield single missions in its place?

I have watched south park but did not recall the quote, sorry.

You have to move your existing game_progress.set into some other folder. Then copy/paste Global War game_progress in the profile folder and when asked to OVERWRITE the old file choose 'yes'. In this way you have a copy of your old game progress and you don't lose the accomplishments on other campaigns/mods and you can restore them when you are not playing Global War. Just be sure to back up the file BEFORE overwriting it, otherwise you will lose any game progress achieved until now in other campaigns.

I hope you'll enjoy the mod.

I download the file .Extract it to Mods folder of Men of War.

I go to the opening map but the map only shows opposing forces.

I remember playing the previous version 4.0 Beta and was very impressed by the innovative way this mod worked and the clever use of scripting it used...

I would be more than happy to port / convert this mod to AS:2 as long as the the author / authors agree to me doing so....

You should get an .exe file, which allows you to extract the compressed archive. Are you downloading it from the mirror here on moddb? Because I just checked and it works.

This mod is great, one thing I don't understand is how do you know when you have captured a control point?, when you capture it, it doesn't change color or anything. Just a little confusing...but thanks for the hard work.

Mod now work, it just needed to patched up

Great mode, i dont understand why Moders making game so dead
But this mod is better than entire campain
Balanced, AI is acting fairly, sometimes smart
Example : a enemy soldier see a my amored car, so he run to hide in bush, he evaded AC sight, but not my sight
More needed things:
More gametypes ?! like some point defence ?
An option to put more than 1 AI on field
More city maps
More Sea,island maps

Thanks but single soldiers AI is the one in the original game. My AI only deals with the reinforcement management and Support operations usage.

Yesterday i fight against normal Japenese AI
Something started destroying my M4, so i started lookin around and then i saw Jp naval batteri, on hill, AI is smart with this, but didnt send some soldiers to defend it against my paratroopers, keep it up ! AI will be soon good as human player

I'm sorry to disappoint you but with the MoW scripting language this is ALMOST the best I can do (it isn't very flexible). I could make the AI defend the cannons, yes I didn't think about it.

Unfortunately it's not possible and won't also be a future feature because the MoW scripting language isn't very flexible and I would have to duplicate the code for each AI player.

Brilliant work. Without this mod -in my humble opinion- the game would be quite boring. I mean, I found out about MOW a week or so ago, played the campaign for about 20 minutes, the voice overs were so pathetic I immediately began to seek a skirmish mode. Took me 10 minutes to find Your mod, install it and try it out. Since then I spent about 10 hours of gameplay having fun with this mod, for wich I thank You deeply. I even managed to beat the insane AI difficulty, granted I did it almost entirelly on slow motion, yet it was extremely satisfying.

I'm quite disappointed the scripting language isn't flexible enough to introduce the possibility of adding additional AIs to the gameplay, that option would make this mod so much more spectacular.

I wonder though, other than adding new maps, making a few tweaks and bug fixes, what do You plan to do in the next release? Also do You have an ETA on it? Will we see it in 2015 or it's too difficult to guess.

Anyways thank You for this mod, it's brilliant, I created an account here just for that purpose: of thanking You.

It didn't let me edit (5 minutes rule) so in advance, pardon for a seperate post.

I noticed people making suggestions, I want to contribute as well.

A simple survival mode, (tower defence). Something along the lines of Your tutorial.

-You start with a certain ammount of points
-You build up your defences
-You activate a trigger, and the first wave is beggining, after you clear the wave, you recieve additional points to strengthen your defence forces before the wave 2 will arrive
-At the beggining you choose a support function, that will aid your defending forces, medical supplies, extra men power, extra command points, you name it. (maybe even some ally forces that you can't command? <- this will add to the feeling of having some company , and will deminish the "You are all on your own" feel to this mode)
-The key to this mode would be the lack of rush and "you have all the time in the world to prepare, just not necessarily all the resources"

That is a very easy concept, I'm sure people have suggested it already, but just in cause...

Again You made a lot of faces happy with this mod.
Is there a way to donate money? To show appreciation and maybe "hasten" the update process?

I had thought of something similar called Assault. You can choose to pick either the defending or the attacking side. The defender starts with all control points and standard tech and command points. The attacker starts with more command and tech points and must capture all the control points up to the enemy base.

The conversion for Assault Squad 2 should be released for December, but I can't make promises since I've just started my PhD career and I don't have much free time.
