Woooo... I wonder if it really has to be so over-complicated, but it's so badass ^^ !!

Won't the game lag by having to animate such complex things ??

Probably would not have to be.. But as you said there are other reasons.

I dont think moving parts like this cost much at all performance. They are quite simple and linear actions. At least I have not seen any performance hits ever.

It's because all of these moving pistons, cylinders and hateches are pretty terrifying ^^

Did you try this in-game with 3 or 4 ships landing and other complicated systems working all at the same time ?

Not yet no. But these animations are in the same category as wheels or turrets or anything that moves on vehicles so there should not be a problem.

I'll make a test with the first dropship. It has very similar enough animation setup.

I tried with 10 / 20 / 40 / 60 / 120 ships and triggered the gear retraction animation on them simultaneously via the console and could not detect any spikes.

Only if I had placed them over each other and the collided the physx calculation that threw them few hundred meters up in the air caused some stutter.

Yup, sounds like it will be fine ;p
(nobody should try to land a ship on another one ^^)

I think landing on one another would work, but spawning a ship inside another ship will cause trouble :D

Got some more work done on the landing gear. Could add some more details here and there, but I think all the necessary moving parts are now there and move as they should.
