I've only been loosely following this mod, but in my opinion they should be allowed to go prone, but unable to fire from that position, it'd make them particularly susceptible to suppression. There would probably have to be special animations for it to not look awkward though. If not, their inability to go prone could be compensated for with better armour, but that may be a bit unbalanced.

You are right and I miswrote a bit our intention in the description!

Prone should be accessible and what I meant to say was that prone with minigun in hand may be disabled and that minigun would be either thrown on ground when going prone or it would go back to inventory while you are down. Weapon like that would be extremely hard to shoot from prone, if not impossible and since it is attached to the strap harness it would not be wieldable in prone position anyhow.

The idea is that it was a heavy support weapon used by the military units that fought in the area and thus not native Scavenger Corporate weapon and best used with appropriate (power)armor to give the extra protection to counter the cumbersomeness. It wont be usable in all situations and not in a hurry but as a planned support asset to lay down immense amount of fire.

Also finally tried out an idea for the carry straps for the HMG-8 Minigun. And Ta-Daa they work!

Currently the plan is to make the minigun powerful but cumbersome weapon.

There will be some limitation on what poses can be taken with it (Prone for instance looks pretty weird due to the low holding weapon pose and how the hand inverse kinematics work)

Also for the straps and upcoming backpack ammofeed to work they have to be part of either the character/uniform model or the vest model and thus the minigun will have a special vest that has to be equipped first before the minigun can be used. This makes the minigun slow to equip, but it is intended handicap to be able to wield its destructive power. The vest will also have room for a spare magazine and can be upgraded with a minigun ammo backpack to double the mag capacity.
