Report RSS LORELEINE :: Small Update for Now

here's what i have been up to-- lead dev of this mod-- for you to look at.

Hello and welcome back to this mod page. Since we are slowly but surely nearing Loreleine's first Absynthe build completion, i decided to write a new article about what i have been working on for the past weeks or so. Before we go in, you also might've noticed that our logo and icon and everything had a slight overhaul, so i hope you liked that.

1. STORY

This is something that i personally had problems with, hence why i hired writers to help me out. Originally, if you did not know, i wanted Loreleine to be more of a puzzle-based modification with almost to no story, similarly to Rexaura. Eventually i thought it would be interesting to add some sort of story, but something completely different from most (not all) Portal mods-- new characters, completely new lore/backstory, etc. For instance, Loreleine does not take place in Earth's Aperture Science, however we are still thinking of a new location, instead of my initial idea of this modification to take place on Rhea, Saturn's moon.
With the use of Space Engine (i highly recommend you check it out for yourself by the way), i've been able to come up with a couple concepts for a new locations, and one of them is shown below and i will describe it more now.
Reina is a moon of a gas giant Porphyrion, orbiting a star located in the galaxy Andromeda. The moon is classified as a hot desert, has atmosphere and a full day/night cycle. Tell me what do you think of this environment/location idea and whether you like it or not.

2. CUSTOM MECHANICS

As you all know, i am a big fan of custom mechanics from other mods. Particular ones that i have decided to use in Loreleine are electricity pads from The Flash Version/Still Alive PC port, sensors from Portal Pro and gravity fields from Portal: Prelude.

You may call me a copycat and you may be right about that, but i have my own reasons why i decided to use this mechanic and not any other or make my own.
Those mechanics had really good use for puzzles in my opinion, but unfortunately for some reason were either underused, or used in a way i personally did not like. For example, in Portal: Prelude you see gravity fields only in 2 test chambers, and i wish i could've saw more of it. As for electricity fields, it has been fairly used, yet i personally don't like how it's only use is related to stressful timing, as opposed to more puzzling usage, if you know what i mean (i am totally professional). Hence why recently i have been working on how i could use electricity pads as a hazard puzzle element that could replace laserfields, which i thought of making one.

Another article is now coming to an end. Remember, join our Discord server here if you want to get real-time updates (for your information, the Discord link is not broken, addressing this because of one person and they know who they are). I will post a new article once we get a working Loreleine build done.

Signing out,
