This mod aims to replace or improve textures in game with new high resolution work while retaining the original feeling and color palette of the game. Characters in game will be given much higher variety of uniforms, equipment and decals which will allow for much deeper experience for those who want to revisit the game or play it for the first time after long time. The textures are redone using original ones as base whenever possible (most are still nice and have at least basic realism) to retain original design, but all textures are upscaled to twice (or more) of original resolution, sharpened, and have decals either redrawn, or replaced with as much reverence to realism as possible. In effect the skins are extra realistic, but also don't look out of place - everything is done as to not ruin the original scene background and color palette that has been developed specially for SPR and MoHAA.
Hello, another update here, this one is with presentation of winter models for US.
Previous update lacked full changes to last mission, the Siegfried Line, because I didn't have enough time to do all the needed things for it. It didn't have full variety for enemy or friendly models, as you saw in last update enemies were lately done, and now friendles are too.
Since mission 6 plays out in 1945, it contains a lot of variety in equipment for both Germans and Americans. American NPCs were badly needed since vanilla version of game simply didn't contain winter models for them. Now they are done in few variants that you can see on screens (description on what is what is in comments), and proper winter US gloves were made for winter missions.
There are also other changes. I updated Tank Crew models, with importing tanker protective helmet model from Breakthrough, so they will now look more proper:)
In m6l3a, Storming Fort Schmerzen, of course all US Rangers were given proper randomized model variety, and also Engineers that assist you at breaching the fort have unique models - also visible on screen. Previously bizzarely equipped with M1911 to storm the entrails of a massive Siegfried Line bunker, the Engineer now has captured StG44 instead of roleplaying a cowboy;)
On screen you can see three types of american winter uniforms, from left to right:
1) "Tanker jackets" - were not only used by tank crews, they were well liked by infantry soldiers too, who got them either by trading or "reposessing" them. Heavy cotton shell with wool liner made them were much warmer and offered better protection from wind than standard-issue M1941 jackets. As these uniforms were non-standard for infantry, mostly NCOs and officers have these;
2) M1941 Arctic Jacket - on first glance these look very similar to standard M1941 Field Jacket, but they were longer to cover the hips, and of course heavier, thicker and much warmer due to wool lining, similar to abovementioned tanker jackets. Due to problems with M43 jackets deliveries, many soldiers in winter of 1944/1945 were stuck with these older winter jackets;
3) M1943 Combat Uniform - universal set made to introduce to all branches, to replace older uniforms, including the inadequate M1941 jackets, as well as dedicated winter attire. It was made from windproof cotton sateen and was equipped with optional attachable warm liner and winter hood, as well as other upgrades over older jackets, such as 4 big pockets in front, and darker "Olive-Drab #7" color, for better camouflage.
As mentioned before, these uniforms were in shortage in winter of 1944/1945 so many soldiers were left with older uniform pieces.
Below you can see first-person perspective with US winter gloves and tanker jacket with snow effects, this will be your starting equipment for mission 6. For indoors levels non-snowed texture variants are also made and kept.
As for last panels, there's presentation of updated models: Tank Crew in mission 5 with tank helmets (models from Breakthrough US Tank Commander); and one of Special Engineer Battalion technicians in mission 6 where he breaches the door to Fort Schmerzen. These engineers are given unique winter models with tanker jackets with 5th Special Engineer Battalion insignia on sleeves and helmets, and this one engineer has captured StG44 (was previously having M1911 which looked rather goofy and made him die instantly vs any enemy).
I also never understood why the engineer was given just a pistol, but in my opinion the StG44 might be a bit over the top
Maybe a Shotgun would work better? That weapon is never seen on allies, thus making the engineer more unique and it would be efficient, since you're fighting in close quarters
I was thinking about the shotgun too, it could be used since it's the only place where it would actually make sense (since it's special operations mission).
The StG44 I chosen as obvious choice for captured weapon in that mission (since you capture StG44 arms stockpile in that mission, in jail control room), and as reference to real-life Hurtgen forest battle where Rangers used captured StG44 rifles to ample up their numbers of automatic weapons - then discovered that Germans were doing the same thing with captured american M1 Carbines.
That engineer was made as unique NPC and just in case it will be easy to replace his equipment or model with whatever fits best
I Never knew these details!
Too bad MOHAA lacks the M1 Carbine, it would be pretty neat to see the clash of US MP44s vs German M1 Carbines.
True, IIRC it would be potentially possible to add but I'd need proper Carbine anims made (could be either by editing Spearhead G43 anims or by ripping from another game). It would be a really nice addition
Soares93 has a pretty nice looking M1Carbine, ported from Brothers in Arms with a custom reload animation (a bit wonky, but decent nonetheless)
Right, I looked it up and it's pretty nice and fits rest of models in game visually, it could definitely work
brother it looks amazing, about the soldiers with the winter jacket, there is a version of the jacket that looks like a long coat, maybe you could implement said model, by the way it looks amazing
Google.com
Yeah the US trenchcoat is going to be made too, I started doing it but it takes slightly more work than I anticipated, and since they were rather used by basic infantry and not Rangers I decided for now to stop at these 3, the trenchcoats will be definitely made for Ardennes missions in Spearhead
man, good afternoon, one question will you launch the complete mod with the spearhead and breakthrough models already ready or in parts and another question, will it be compatible with the Soares93 mod?
It will need to be merged but yes
Nice glove textures.
Thanks!
Oh man, every addition to the mod makes me smile. Love your work, keep it up!
Thank you so much, great to hear it!
that Amazing try winter Airborne too. thank you Bro
Sure Airborne will come but for Spearhead missions. There will be Airborne versions of M43, the trenchcoats, and older winterized M42
Looks amazing!
For the breakthrough mod…. Is it possible to replace the vickers lmg in the Italian Airbase control tower with a Breda machine gun?.
The Vickers LMG in that base is a trophy weapon there, so I don't know if it would make sense to switch that out, however in the mission "Gela" which plays after that airfield mission I plan to switch it to Breda LMG in loadout, and instead Vickers will be added to British in Monte Cassino mission where player will be able to pick it up
Also for some reason in Spearhead. The British are Also in American paratrooper c47s.
Yeah it shouldn't be a problem to switch them out for US paratroopers
