Today I say down and said "let's finish the overhaul on the hatchet", now I had been working on a newer version with no inverted faces, higher poly count, better lighting assembly, enviro mapping, and 3 different levels of blood display... but the blood was a little weird looking and the animations were up ahead. Ended up going in in 1/5th the time it took me to do the original blood and made way better (even bordering on perfect shape) ones, bam done. Then sat down for most of today and re-did all the animations, and later am going to even add 3 new animation sequences for the new parrying ability on melee weapons, which by the way is now a thing... allowing larger melee weapons to (sometimes) reduce incoming damage in varying degrees (such as bullet vs melee for instance) in exchange for a bit of condition damage. The hatchet is capable of parrying and while it is the only indestructible weapon in game, it will eventually be met with competitor melee weapons with their own unique advantages, including some with higher damage reduction rates in exchange for finite condition.
