What happens when you take all of the dialogue and text of Half-Life, its expansions and sequel, run it through several different languages in Google Translate, then translate it back to English? The result is a wacky, distorted, hilarious version of these games we all love. Welcome to Half-Life: Google Translate Edition!

New release for Sven Co-op, new Wiki, and farewell.

Posted by on

Hey all! As my life starts to get consumed by my college, work, and other adulting stuff, I decided to post one last major update.

I've gotten many questions about how to play Half-Life: Google Translate on Sven Co-op, despite the fact that I only ever designed this mod to run on single-player Half-Life. Well... I decided to change that.

Some time ago, I also decided to start a wiki for this series, which I have dubbed the "Mesa Black Universe."

The-mesa-black-universe.fandom.com

It's very bare-bones right now, with only 4-5 incomplete articles, but I decided to leave a link to it here for people who would like to add to it. Could be an interesting way to keep track of all of the strange lore.

And now, a solemn farewell.

As mentioned above, my life has become pretty busy lately, and I will not have time to maintain support for GoldSrc: Google Translate anymore. I may release smaller updates here and there in the future, but since most people don't seem to want anymore mistransated GoldSrc games (which is totally fine), I don't really see the need to continue maintaining the project. Of course, I have enabled community-uploaded downloads, so if you would like to embark on Google-Translating a GoldSrc game or modification, please feel free! If you want even more Google-Translated Half-Life, my good friend Gyarik is currently heading the development of Half-Life 2: Google Translate edition, which you can find here: ( Moddb.com ) All three of the voice actors from this project will have roles in the sequel, so you should definitely stay tuned!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for the love and support that you've given this project. I'll be checking this page daily to answer any questions you might have. And please feel free to upload streams/playthroughs of these Google Translated games! Watching you guys react to everything that happens has been by far my favorite part of making this mod. If you stream on Twitch, there's a chance that I might stop by and say hello.

Farewell, friends. See you all in Half-Life 2: Google Translate Edition!

If and when you're planning to Google Translate all of Valve's Source games like Portal and Team Fortress 2, which version of Google Translate Still Alive is best for you?:

I never said I would do all of Valve's source games... though I do plan on doing Portal GTE at some point in the distant future.
To answer your second question, while I appreciate you supplying these different variations, I plan on doing the translations all myself.
