Age of Empires III: Galactic Conflict is a non-commercial, fan-based Star Wars themed mod under construction for Ensemble’s Studios Age of Empires III, drawing inspiration from several star wars games such as Galactic Battlegrounds, Force Commander and Empire at War, AoE3: GC aims to bring the star wars universe to the great RTS game of Age of Empires III.
Class: Heavy-Infantry.
Good Against: Mechs and Aerial units.
Bad Against: Snipers, general Infantry.
Factions: Confederacy
A specialized model of the recurrent B1 Battle Droid of the Baktoid Combat Automata. Baron Droids were used in the Clone Wars to target and shoot the many vehicles the Republic threw at the Separatist Forces, and their weapons would lock on land and aerial vehicles alike.
Baron Droids were produced by the Confederacy as their anti-armoured units, they carry the E-60R Rocket Launcher to target Mechs, Vehicles and Aerial units. Being part of the B1-series, the Baron Droid is cheaper and quicker to train than its other Heavy-Infantry counterparts, but they will also be more expandable.
In Age of Empires III: Galactic Conflict, Baron Droids will be the Confederacy's earlist form of anti-air and anti-armour counters, and as they are cheap and spammable, they are easy to keep, but as the game latens and enemy infantry, mechs and aerial rosters get stronger, they may come as obsolete. To further that, unlike its trooper cousin, it wont have a better replacement for later -- so the late-game Confederacy's player will have two choices, to spend resources on better anti-air or anti-armor mechs/aerial units, OR... to spam these cheap and glass-cannon units.
Author's Note:
The B1 Baron Droid is a fanon unit, as it was based off the old battlefront series' Assault Battle Droid, and it arouse with the need for the CIS to have an anti-armour infantry unit. In the new star wars canon there is no special droid model to counter armour, with most anti-armour weaponry being wield by normal B1 Battle Droids or BX-Commando Droids. Because I wanted each unit to stand out differently, I gave them the Rocket Battle Droid's orange and dark grey paintjob. The name comes from the old Star Wars RTS Galactic Battlegrounds (a game built on the same engine as AoE2) Baron Battle Droid, which was the Trade Federation's anti-air infantry unit.
What do you think of this new unit? Do you have any suggestions to its role in the gameplay? Remember any suggestion is welcomed!
