The result of the first build day, 30 by 20-ish KM so far. Not going to lie, I'm excited.

As we see by the map outlines here, it fits on the map. Mostly. At that angle. Somewhat.
It's pretty big.
will the star base be a bit deathstar-like floating "under" the map or do you have some tricks up your sleeve to use that model in the map?
Under the map? This whole thing is going to be on the playing field, very much being active in combat on higher starbase levels.
Maybe it is possible to make space map larger?
It is, in 2.0 our space maps were 20K by 20K distance units in the map editor, for 3.0 we sized them down to 15K by 15K to reduce downtime. Running your fleet across the map to the enemy oftentimes took a little too long for my liking. Validusia still fits with its 30 km width alongside the 15K distance units. It's not exactly a 2 to 1 conversion but it's close enough.
