I was under the impression that the S-Foils fold the other way on the TIE Hunter. Since they were the TIE equivalent of the X-wing, and what I remember from the games.
In the games yes, logically that doesn't make much sense. Why would you transform your craft? To make it smaller, so more of it would fit in a carrier. If those "s-foils" would "lock", it'd make the craft wider.
No that is incorrect, the reason the Tie Hunter transforms is to mimic the ability that the X-wing has by having an adjustable mode for combat and high speed flight.
As stated here: Starwars-exodus.wikia.com
And here: Starwars.wikia.com
Also that configuration would be better purposed for a storage mode, not a standby mode on a carrier as the entry point for TIE series fighters is from the top.
As seen here with the Gonzanti-Class Cruiser: Farm3.staticflickr.com
And here on an imperial hangar: Lordsarvain.files.wordpress.com
And also at this point I am nitpicking and its entirely up to the author of the image and models for their interpretation of how the TIE/HU would work for their mod.
That last configuration was thought up by Fractalsponge. As the first configuration was thought up by whoever designed the original Hunter.
The configuration you see here is mine, and it's the logical evolution and a step up from the other S foil configurations. The original made no sense. Fractals made a lot more sense. This makes as much sense as it can, in my opinion, by actuall granting a tactical advantage by making the fighter a smaller target.
Opinion you. Feel free to change the model, I intentionally left the rotation point cilinders there so people could change it if they want. Be sure to link me to your version, I'd like to have a look.
Love me some dank models.
That TIE up the Defender is the Hunter? My bad for my english :-P
With the s foils locked and unlocked.

THIS configuration would be what your probably thinking of for carrier standby: S-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com
In which case your correct.

Anyway, Fractal's configuration looks most badass.
