what's that large ship firing at? It kind of looks like a recusant class, but i can't tell because of the angle

The Larger ship is the Bellator-Class Star Dreadnought and its firing at the MC30 Frigate....

I think it's great it's like "You see that bright laser? It's your doom!"

It is one of the most powerful turbos in the game, so they should be quite good visible. I think it's good the way it is now.

I added a "little" glowy to all the turbolaser projectiles. Perhaps a bit too much, as the octuple green shot is now really, really bright.
