(buried)

and little bit less turret would be nice, even the newer device will lag before unleashing your powerful models.

More turrets the better, if your PC can't handle it lower your options, or upgrade (if it's 10 yo PC).

It is not too difficult to remove turrets in the coding but for those of us without 3DS Max it is impossible to add them so I say the more turrets the merrier. That and also turrets look really cool.

You obviously have no idea how lag actually is caused, which is absolutely not because of turrets. Do some research before speaking about stuff that you clearly don't know anything about, because it makes you sound really dumb.

When I use your models without any turrets, it works fine; after I put in all the turret, I will lag the first time I put that ship in the map, everything after that is fine. And yes, I do put in no turret hardpoint codes just for testing; differences is significant. I have i7 3rd gen, and dedicated GT740m, the laptop should run this thing smoothly. It is just a suggestion, no need to get really serious. I obviously not asking you to redo all your work, it's unreasonable and dumb, but should keep in mind the possibility of too many turrets causing lag.

AHAHHAAAAHHAHAHHAHHAH

You're running this on laptop, and you're surprised it lags? Man, you'd have to have a really cutting-edge laptop to run mods with this level of detail!

Don't listen to him Geronimo, don't limit the turrets, add MORE of them, they are what makes the mods so... so... F*CKING AWESOME and GREAT!!!

This one does look even better and I think one of my favorite parts is that heavy quad in the nose of the ship. Just says if you try to run I will still blow you away. I also really like those turrets that are notched into the super structure. Maybe some of those in the trench would look cool but maybe that's a little over kill if there is such a thing.

Just to throw a wish out there when you do the mark 1 version, if you haven't already, could you make the 3 axial turrets right in front of the super structure triple turrets and spread them out a little more. According to Wiki they are triple turrets and the movie model had heavy turrets there. I played around with your released model and replaced the two dual turrets there with your triples and they looked really good they were just a little bunched up.

? It's already got 2 triples in front of the ship? I don't quite understand what you're saying.

The front turrets might be removed or replaced later on, I'm not sure if they fit the ship.

The three in a straight line where on your original you had a quad ball ion cannon and then two dual turrets. Those two duals are the ones I replaced with triples and it looked good then I moved those duals where the triples used to be. This is the best picture I could find to show what I'm talking about though Fractals turrets don't show any gun barrels on them and I think having the barrels looks better

Fractalsponge.net

I'm talking about the three big turrets in the top left on the centerline right in front of the forward most part of the super structure. On the ISD 1 studio model the only visible turrets are those 3 turrets, the big 8 duals and the 2 quad trenches. You got the 8 big guns and quad trenches handled very nicely so those 3 would be the last ones I would like to see stand out more.

As for the turrets in the nose they do look really cool but I may agree with you on they might not fit the ship. Some dual turbolasers might fit better. Still I won't complain if you do leave the quads.

It's quite hard to find pictures of the actual movie model of the ISD I, I haven't found any. Problem is with changing doubles into quads or triples is the firepower suddenly goes up. I reduced the amount of triples from 6 to 2 in this model and added more duals to compensate. The previous version already had a lot of firepower and I'm not going to add even more to that.

Here is a link to some pictures of the studio model. The only way I can find it is type a search for Devastator studio model instead of ISD 1 studio model

Modelermagic.com

It was a very low detailed model so it's pretty much only good for turret placement. If you were going to do it you could replace the two triples on there now with duals and make those centerline turrets the only triples so it's only one more instead of three.

Actually after looking at those pictures again from the link I posted it actually doesn't look like the same model from the first chase scene but it is definitely an ISD 1 it just has an ISD 2 style tower. It is probably the model for this scene

In this picture you can see those 3 guns, they are dual and not triple. Nice find, I'll save these pics for later reference.

Yeah I can thank Wiki for putting triple barrel in my head since that's what they say they are. I figured that model has little detail and they just didn't include gun barrels but I just noticed those little barrels on the top. I thought the whole structure was a heavy turret which is how it looks like Fractal interpreted it. I'm an engineer so I read the descriptions probably more than look at the pictures so I don't catch all the little visual details. FYI if you do a search for Avenger model you should find good pictures of the ISD 2 movie model. Thank Fractal's thread for helping me find those model names.

First of all, I really like the model...
But - there always has to be one!
There is something (I dare to say) really wrong with the bridge superstructure.
This is the hardest part to get right, I think and I only know few that got it nailed down perfectly (those have issuses on the main hull instead). The Bridge is too bulked an the heigth is not right, it's too low.
I have something from the Imperial Sourcebook as a reference for you:
Abload.de
The bridge tower is higher here, which gives the ship a less bulky, but majestic feel.
Don't get me wrong I like your work - I could never create such a model, but this bridge strangeness - I might call it this way - also was what bothered me with your first version.

So if you had read the description, I was inspired by the lego vessel, and used the dimentions of that ship, which do clearly show less emphasis on the bridge, lowering it and making it smaller. Instead, it focusses emphasis on the superstructure underneath it, making it slightly longer than usually seen on ISDs. It was an intentional design decision.

I read that, I usually do so before posting comments.
I also really think about writing a comment at all, specially what to write, so...

I know the model (The Chimera) you were inspired by, but it still has a higher bridge tower, not as high as in my reference, which is pretty close to the movie(s), but not as - I don't really know how to express... - clung to the hull and main superstructure. There is more air in between. Or the longer tower (In your model the tower reches far more underneath the bridge sructure) is aiding that bulk-ish impression.

Here you can see the height, width and lenght of the ship in cm, I used those dimentions when doing the ship. I studied all pictures very carefully and used them closely when I modelled each part of the ship, for the bridge too, it's accurate to the lego model and I like those dimentions better than fractals ones.

it might be a pain to say but the model looks amazing except for the bridge, it should be redone with the pictures provided by striker

it all looks so amazingly good except for that bridge front
i do understand if it wont be done because of all the work it will take or if it is part of making it more poly friendly, but just giving my opinion.

still all your models are amazing so cant wait to see the skinned version

I disagree, I specifically made it this way instead of the regular ISD because I like this better.

If there's so many people who want to change things left right and centre about the model why don't I see more ISD models pop up from you guys, would be very interested to see what you all can come up with, must be someone who critiques who can actually model?

Description

So the last one was nice, but I wanted it nicer.

Remodelled from scratch, this new version is poly friendlier while looking even better than the first one. It's got some pretty good details that I hope I was able to showcase enough in one picture. Skin will be made later.

Press view original to watch it in more detail.

Model by me.
