Originally developed by Eugene Stoner as the AR-10 and scaled down to 5.56 by L. James Sullivan as the AR-15, this rifle replaced the M14 as the Marine Corps' standard issue rifle in 1969. From the marshes of Vietnam to the valleys of Phobos, the M16 has since proved to be a capable rifle in the hands of marines everywhere.
