Call of The Zone is a standalone modification for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. – Call of Pripyat that allows you to explore the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone – a desolate and highly contaminated region of Ukraine that has been abandoned and closed off for decades ever since the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. What has been going on in this irradiated wasteland since then? There are no shortage of rumors and conspiracy theories, each more fantastic than the last. Rumors of mutated wildlife, brainwashed cults, secret experiments, and unexplainable paranormal events abound, as do promises of great riches and wildest dreams coming true for those who are daring or desperate enough to try to break through the cordon. You are about to find out for yourself what is true and what is yet undiscovered, and experience for yourself all the Zone has to offer... or to take from you.

If you've just installed CoTZ and can't get it to run, try the following:

1. Ensure you have installed the required DirectX and VC++ runtimes. See the CoTZ readme for details.

2. If you installed CoTZ into your C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) folder, move it into the C:\ drive instead, or onto a separate partition. CoTZ might not start correctly if installed inside of your core Windows installation (thanks Sanctuary!)

3. Certain audio devices may prevent CoTZ from starting. To get around this, change your audio device in Windows, then start CoTZ. Set your sound options to generic software in the settings menu and apply the settings. You can then exit the game and change your audio device back to what it was in Windows and CoTZ should now start normally (thanks klarg!)

If you've tried the above and are still having issues, feel free to open a thread about it here in the troubleshooting forum, and we'll get you up and running!
