Changes respawns to once per day, adjusts CotZ' dynamic spawn settings to increase the chances of revenge spawns, and adds more options in the menu for the population factor for stalkers and mutants.
Update v1.1:
Playing at low population settings is refreshing. I'm SO PARANOID all the time.

BLABLABLABLA
Call of the Zone uses a dynamic spawning system for population control. It's all very evil and megalomaniac. Doctor X has some serious things to answer for.
But I'm not gonna question him, are you kidding me? THE MAN IS A DOCTOR. I'm sure he knows what he's doing. The only thing I could ever fault him on, is that he's a little conservative, sometimes.
By default, the game gives dudes and critters a 50% chance to respawn as an additional spawn every day or so to cover the world's losses. At least, that's what I think it does. I am not a doctor. What I am, though, is a bit of a mad scientist.
In this archive are two alternative settings for this mysterious spawner. One is a conservative 75%, the other a more devil may care 100%. I have found through meticulous research (okay I just play this game a lot) that the game's main population settings are mainly for the amount of squads spawned, and that the settings in this addon in practice add to the size of the squads. Sometimes though, it appears dudes and mutants are respawned solo or in twos, which usually means surprise attacks. Or easy targets.
I think. Again, I am not a doctor.
Why did I make this addon? Because of Action AI, actually. Life in the Zone moves so much faster with it installed, that the population can barely keep up. All those NPCs murdering and looting and sprinting off to do more murdering and looting, it's crazy.
So does this addon not make things worse, by increasing the population? Maybe. I prefer to think it makes things better.
Suggested population settings:
Population settings in Stalker are quirky, since you can set one set of population settings in the Main Menu options, before starting a New Game, to set initial spawns and raise or lower the settings after the game has started to have the population diminish or increase as respawns come into effect.
- For a main quest centered run, I would suggest just using the default settings: 1 for mutants and 0.5 for NPCs.
- If you're freeplaying, set these values in the main menu and raise them to 1.5 and 1 after the game has started.
- If you're doing something exciting like a Pariah-mode ironman run (try it, it's awesome) start with 1.5 and 1 in the Main Menu options and max them out after the game starts. You'll barely have time to loot bodies. It's an absolute war zone.
- If you want to feel like your goal in life is to make the Zone a Better Place (yeah, that 80's Christmas song is playing in your head right about ... now) start with max settings in the Main Menu and lower them to min settings after starting a New Game.
Installation:
- Extract the gamedata folder of your choice into your CotZ folder.
Uninstallation:
- Delete gamedata\configs\drx\drx_dp_config.ltx
Works as intended? This was scary as hell, by the way.
- Mutant population: 1.5
- Stalker population: 1
- CotZ Population Increaser: 75%
what do you mean he is a little conservative
I think a better wording would be "prudent".
Christian.
Have you tried to increase population but INCREASE the respawn rate? So there would be a lot of npcs and mobs but they respawn more slowly in order to preserve performance and, yeah, avoid turning the Zone into a clusterfuck?
After much trial and error (primarily error) I have finally deduced what this modification I made actually does: it raises the chances and size of what I would like to call "revenge spawns" - When you kill something, the game checks these values to spawn a nasty surprise nearby while you're busy looting.
It's so you can't completely clear out an area of hostiles. You always have to be on your toes. It's kind of mean! And I'm keeping it. It shouldn't affect performance much, since it only respawns stuff that was there before anyway. It's not actually adding to the population. I should rename the thing.
Fair warning though: This addon makes other addons that actually change base spawnrates more deadly.
